I have the first version of these. They sound absolutely amazing but will sound better once broken in. They are not as bright as some of the lower budget towers. They don't have the same tin-like treble that klipsch speakers are notorious for. The Reference Premiere Line (RP) has a more fuller sound and is great for both movies and music. Even If I had to have a stereo system these would definitely be the towers to buy. And for the average Joe, the bass is pretty good on these so you might not even need a sub. I have these running with 2 monolith subs, older infinity il as surrounds, and a klipsch 504C center channel all paired to a Yamaha Amp. Not a bad budget set up and more than enough for my needs.

Cabinet is MDF… pretty much standard stuff for most speakers. If you're looking for exotic materials or real wood veneer you are talking triple the price and up kind of speakers.

They're on sale. Same price directly from Klipsch. Though Amazon will likely be better for returns if that's a concern.

I'm just getting into this -- true audiophiles, how does these compare to the KEF R7s (I bought two on clearance for $900/each)?

Great deal on a pair of Klipsch RF-8000f ii speakers! The original 8000fs are also on sale for $838 and sound amazing. These are the 2.0s which are more refined and sound even better!

At this price, these are a tremendous value. I can't think of anything better at $1k for a tower speaker.

I have seen some YouTube tear downs and the build quality seems to be lacking - certainly in comparison to KEFs.
At this price, build quality is about par for the course meaning pretty good. Cabinet in the gen ii's is actually better than the first .

Probably depends on what type of music you prefer and your matching gear.

I bought these open box a few months ago and paid around $650 for each. Plus I had to return 3 boxes as they kept arriving damaged. Such a pain to repack and carry to return. This deal is great from my perspective, they are brand new and have 5 years of warranty. They are now listed for $750 on Klipsch's website but a few months ago, when they first came out, they were listed for $950. After that klipsch did a "price rewind" and lowered them to the current price of $750. So really it's more of a 50% discount.

I paired them with a $2.7k sony receiver and am loving the sound. Would not return them. I am not an audiophile though so take what I say with a grain of salt.

This stuff is so subjective, but I watched some Youtube comparison videos and I thought the second generation sounded much better. Admittedly a Youtube video isn't ideal, but the sound quality seemed great, and I'm listening through somewhat higher end studio monitors (Adam A7X). I just pulled the trigger on the towers to upgrade from the non-premier Reference. I was going to buy the first gen, but after listening to the video I decided to wait for a sale, and I'm glad I did.
