From the last thread on these speakers.
For some reason there was a misunderstanding that this are active speakers (powered) and those things on the side are subwoofers.
They're passive radiators.

This is tempting, though I haven't heard great things about the speakers. I run 5.1 with an X3400H bi-amping JBL studio 590s for the fronts and stereo music (records). This would be a cheap way to upgrade to the X2800H. Anybody have these speakers and can comment on how they sound for records?

The recession must be really affecting these types of mfgs because they cant seem to give it away! The X2800 used to command that price alone! It does show you just how much the markups are on it.
Seems like definitive Technology's new demand series is a dud. Nobody want to seem to like them or get them. They have already started to get discounted.

The Demand Series came out in 2018 and the D15 in Jan 2020....so not that new. I'm pretty sure they are discontinued.
I think you are right, not a lot of folks wanted them, but not because they are bad.
The thing is Def Tech was known for bipolar speakers created by Sandy Gross and his team. When they left to form GoldenEar, the brand went a whole different direction and not a lot of people followed.
They are really good speakers, and yes they are heavily discounted because no one wanted them. I think the floor standing and bookshelf Demand speakers you can get for cheap are really outstanding for the $. Stuff in high Demand (punny!) does not get discounted like this.
My guess is the parent company....who also owns Polk, will not put out another high end line to replace these.
