I finally saw one in-person in Costco. These are pretty small / tiny. The previous iteration of these were marketed more as a portable outdoors "stove" for boiling, cooking, etc. This one looks like it's targeting more of the "urban" covered patio type of crowd. That being said, it doesn't really excel in heat output / warming people up with "2 feet radius" being real generous. I suppose one can gather around and do marshmallows together. For me, I'm still confused as to the practical use of these but I do like the fact that there are multiple colors now aside from just stainless steel On sale the price point seems decent as well especially when splitting with someone else.

Don't do it. Just buy a jetboil and you'll be 100x happier.

I concur. The solo stoves are annoying to fuel and clean up. The alcohol ones are clean, use common isopropyl alcohol as fuel, and can even be used indoors
Do you think alcohol can be used in these?? I would love to have an alcohol one of this size and price.

Depends,, yes but it gets hard to control. Once you have surface ignition without some metering method, and you start having increased temperatures where the alcohol starts to vaporize faster and faster... I dont know if I would....

I have had the Solo Mesa since Christmas, and I can honestly say that it's a huge gimmick. You can create a good flame using wood pellets or small wood chips, but you're constantly feeding the small fire because it burns out quickly. It just becomes more work than it's worth.

How quickly? For these I am fine with 15- 20 minutes or so. I will use a regular pit for longer burns. Sometimes I just want to chill and I don't want to have to sit there forever waiting for it to burn out so I can leave it.

These can't be filled too much since they're so small. With even the Mesa XL, the larger one, I'd say maybe 10 minutes before your have to refill. But, the problem with refilling these is that doing so causes a lot of smoke.

Not sure why these get so much hype. Using gas is much cleaner and more efficient.

Well, I had never heard of the Mesa and ordered a set last night. I was going to keep one and give the other as a gift. Hopefully they are packaged separately.

Hopefully I use it sometime.

See previous threads with discussions. Terrible product and not worth the money. Novelty/paper weight

To be fair, I don't feel like any of the solo stoves are going to warm people up without the $175+ heat defector. You get some radiant heat coming off the unit, but the majority of the heat is just going toward the sky, you end up heating your face more but your legs less (my experience with the Bonfire 2.0).

I think the Mesa is really a compact marshmallow roaster or a hotdog roaster if you're adventurous, with a bit of ambiance for those who want it. The more "practical" option would be the Solo Stove Lite, Titan or Campfire, since you can set things on top for heating/cooking as well. They just won't be as "nice" looking.

So this wouldn't be so good for burning up all the twigs in the yard that I keep bagging up?

That would cause this to be a "HIGH smoke" pit and not a "low/no smoke" pit. You really need to use specific types of wood to make it low smoke. Even pellets cause some more than anticipated smoke IMO.

I own one of these and I used it once, and probably won't use it again. I own a regular solo stove, and it is awesome. This thing sucks. The idea is nice, but you have to feed the fire every 5 minutes or it completely burns out and you have to start over. I guess it is fine if you don't mind babysitting it, and you plan on sitting there the whole time, but I lit it when we were having a party and I walked away, as you typically have to do when you are hosting and it was out, and I had to relight it every time I walked away.

You definitely do not need the heat deflector on for it to keep you warm around the firepit. The Bonfire gets very hot. I love mine.
The mesa though? That thing just adds ambiance and is a PITA because it goes through wood so quickly.

What I'm saying is without the heat deflector, you are heating your upper torso and face more than your lower torso to your feet. So yes, it very extremely hot, but the heat is primarily moving upward in a vertical cone shape, so the lower extremities are noticeably cooler. In cooler climates (Such as me in the PNW outside of summer), the heat deflector is kinda of needed if you want more whole-body heat without burning your face off when its below 50.

I've had plenty of normal fires in a standard metal ring, low firepit on 20-30 degree (f) nights to tell you that it heats you better than a Bonfire, without a heat deflector, on a 50 degree (f) night. Not shitting on the Solo Stove, its actually great. But the deflector is a game changer for cooler days/nights/climates, but is absurdly overpriced.

Just got mine and opened it up. There isn't a pellet adapter in the box…there should be correct?

I called them. She said the updated Mesa doesn't come with the pellet adapter separately. That it's built in.

So this part isn't accurate: Included a pellet burner adapter gives you the choice to burn with pellets or any fuel on hand
