YMMV but I allowed my free year membership from AAA to expire. It originally was through a T-Mobile promotion. I randomly got mail today stating another complimentary free year would be given to me by AAA
Here is the letter

Does this still not work on legacy plans such a Simple Choice?
The roadside assistance is the worst of all. First you need to pay for basic only 5 miles tow for $60 or $110 plus membership for regular tow but if you ask and read all the comments on their website, you wait 2 to 9 hour minimum for a guy to show up.
You can pay $15 extra for 12 months with your insurance company and you get unrestricted road side assistance and you wait far less amount of time.
AAA is like those 2% off coupon for those who don't know what a deal actually means!
save that money and pay $15 a year with your auto insurance company and you get unrestricted much faster towing service.
it's not like you need towing everyday so no need to worry. i have been driving for 25 years with regular maintenance and I have only towed my car only twice.

Correct, new signups have something like a 48 hour waiting period. If you already have Basic, there's no waiting period to upgrade but you'll obviously have to pay the difference plus a fee of about $24. I asked almost a year ago, so I may be off by a few dollars. I don't know anything about the legacy plans though.

Not always true. I used towing with my insurance. Waited over 2 hours. When I got my next statement from insurance they informed me my premiums were going up due to a claim. When I called and told them something was wrong I didn't have a claim. They gave me the date of my tow and said I used the tow service, it counts. I wasn't in an accident, the damn car just broke down. Never using that service again.

i haven't used towing for over 15 years now, zero accidents or tickets and my premium still increased by $100 recently. there are other factors that consider. but AAA is a disaster, hours and whole day or night wait for a guy on white truck to show up for $60 to $110 a year and than they demand tip. thats what everyone is saying. i can't imagine wasting in cold or hot weather for that many hours somewhere with AAA

AAA discount on hotel and Theme parks not that great the only Pro for me is to be able to Transfer Title or Renew registration at any AAA instead of going to DMV.

You need to check out the hotel deal sites. AAA discount has never been better then those for me
