I returned my pair recently because the noise canceling cannot be turned off. It has two modes -- full noise canceling and "aware" mode which is supposed to let outside sound in, but there's no way to simply turn off noise canceling.
Which is wild because there are a million situations where noise canceling doesn't work very well, so at best it's draining your batteries. At worst it is amplifying random wind noise or dishes clanging or whatever. I don't want to hear that shit twice because I can't turn off your stupid noise canceling feature.

Anyone who has used XM3 or XM4 compares noise cancellation with Q45. I am planning to buy from Costco (not a prime member and no amex target 40% off deal).

Found it:
The main difference is that the SE version is cheaper because it comes with a soft case rather than the hard, leather case you get with the 45s. F
Should I get this? Worth the upgrade?

I am fortunate that it is not an issue for me as 90% of my usage on these is while flying and if I'm on aircraft that still has air gaspers (the directional air vents) I just maneuver them so as to not hit the mics on my cans. But yeah, I cannot even imagine how irritating it would be to go for a walk with these on during a windy day right?
Note of interest: Several airlines have already announced that they are including ad-hoc bluetooth pairing in future versions of their in-flight entertainment suites. So someday we may all be able to use our bluetooth headphones and earbuds with aircraft movies and TV shows... Though you can always purchase a cheap bluetooth adapter that plugs into the headphone jack in the seat and pairs to your headphones/earbuds if you prefer too! And most US carriers are also offering the same (or more) content for free on your own personal device (phone, tablet, laptop, etc.) by connecting to the onboard wifi system. Never have there been more options for entertainment!

But yeah, I'd say the sound is improved a bit on the high end and the battery life is definitely a bit longer... However I believe the cost to build a pair of QC35s was higher as the new ones feel a little bit "cheaper" in quality to me. Worth it for my USB-C OCD I suppose haha. If you're more tolerant and your QC35s are still humming along, probably not a huge need to upgrade though honestly.
My wife does not like noise-cancelling cans and is still perfectly happy with her OE2s (which I think are almost 10 years old at this point?). The damn things still hold a good charge and I just replaced the ear cushions for the first time recently. They look pristine and she is happy so win-win haha. I give it to Bose, they build a quality of product that will long outlast my own obsession with upgrading!

You would think that they'd deliver a firmware update to allow you to disable noise canceling, but... I wouldn't count on it. Just go with a different set of headphones if that's important to you.
Ya know what gets me sometimes? Flipping rental cars and their USB-A ports when trying to use Apple CarPlay on the road haha. So have bought the old USB-A to Lightning cables twice since then because I didn't bring one in my bag! Then before the trip that I am on right now I consciously remembered and put a USB-A cable in my backpack for the rental car. Get to Mobile, AL and get into the 2022 Chevy Malibu... Freaking thing has TWO USB-C Ports on it haha. I was honestly blown away lol.
