Thoughts on upgrading from Ryzen 7 1700x to this? I'm planning to upgrade my gpu (currently rx 570) to 6650 xt or better.

I have an old Ryzen 5 1600 on this motherboard I'd like to swap this for...but I can't seem to determine if the mobo will take advantage (it will fit I assume).

quick google search shows you need to update the BIOS first, but yup should be very simple. Have a 5600g in my dad's old gigabyte ab350. https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/AB3...x.asp#BIOS

Appreciate you taking the time. I bumped the BIOS all the way up last rebuild so I'm good to go. This is a fair price for a decent upgrade. Thanks!

I'm currently in the process of building a surprise mini-ITX B550 gaming rig on a budget for my 3 nephews who are ages 10, 8, and 6, and decided on the AsRock B550M-ITX/AC and it comes integrated w/ onboard WiFi5 and BT4.2. Not sure if that form factor bodes well for you.

I'm a little late to the party, but I upgraded from the same CPU and the 5600X was definitely a worthwhile upgrade. 5th gen Ryzen made substantial improvements to efficiency, especially for games (the 1000 and 3000 series had some bad stuttering issues for some games that the 5th gen fixed). Even though it has 2 less cores, it's overall a much better CPU.
