Same here... I said this in another thread and the kasa lovers came out in force to defend..
How it should be really. Fine to state your experience, but people should also state theirs. Good to have balance and see how often the issues do arise.

I love the concept of smart outlets but struggle to find useful things to do with them for outside of holiday decor. What do some of you use these for?
I have them on lamps and on my 3d printer. I think that's about it. I avoid smart bulbs now due to them being useless during an outage.

I hate overhead lights, so have about 20 lamps around the house.

Also have them on a noisemaker in the bedroom, fan in bedroom, pet's heated pad, extras for holidays, outdoor lights/tv to have less persistent electrified wiring, and one that is useful for a TCL tv that has a persistent backlight on even when turned off.

But mostly it's the lamps. I love lamp. I also installed switches for my porch and garage lights, but not the same thing.

I got rid of my Wemo and Amazon smart plugs because of the lag and they often go offline. I switched to Kasa and no more problems.

Would be interested in these if there was a dedicated app, but I don't want to live under the same roof with Hey Google and Alexa (that have no respect for my privacy, etc.)

Maybe these ultra versions are better, but my existing Kasa plugs cant hold a wifi connection worth a damn and have to be power cycled regularly, as do the bulbs. I won't buy anything kasa again.
Have 40+ Kasa devices. I had one that was defective and kept dropping off Wi-Fi. Replaced it. The others have been rock solid.

I love these. Significantly smaller than the standard ones. The Used Like New 4pk are $19 + 20% off. I'd definitely go for those instead as they're just like new ones from my experience buying new and used.

DO NOT BUY THESE if you have ASUS AC2600 Blue Cave router. They do not work and will brick the router forcing a hard reset and you have to reset the plugs so they cannot connect to wifi otherwise it will brick as soon as it is set back up. A huge headache.

If you are dead set on using them with that specific router, you can buy a wifi extender (I use a cheapo netgear one) and connect all smartplugs to that.

Living room lamps, printer, white noise machine in baby's room, specialty plant lighting and outdoor patio string lighting.

Garage door opener automatically has its power shut off every night for safety; I turn it on when needed. Two of 3 lamps in the familyroom automatically turn on at sundown but turn off at different set times. Dish TV box draws the same power when running or not so when appropate I shut it down. The bedroom box has a set time to turn off. A noise maker can be activated and time randomized when away. I use the KASA app and can recommend it.

I have a handful of Kasa plugs and have replaced almost all of my common area switches wtih smart switches about 2 years ago, they are all solid. There have been a few rare instances in the past when I need to hit the cycle button on a switch to reboot it, but I've not had that since I changed my routers out 8 months ago.

I have a bunch of random chinese plugs around the house, the only difference I see between them and the Kasa are that they all seem to be rebranded junk and the app they use is a reskin of another app, because I usually test them to see if I can add them to a different app than their directions link to. Also, some of the apps have stopped getting updates, so it is nice to have them under 1 app even if it is a reskin. Otherwise, they are as reliable as Kasa. I've leaned in on Kasa because I had some plugs and light bulbs and was going to get switches, so having it all under 1 app is nice and I prefer a company that I don't feel is going anywhere.

Beyond holiday lights I use mine to power cycle my router, for lights/heater/fogger on the aquarium and terrarium, some cameras that may need an occasional power cycle, a safety measure for some crafting things that I make to make sure can't turn on unless I want them on, my kid's televisions in case they leave them on or I need to set timing on them, and some lamps to turn on and off when I am away.
