These have just NSF 42 and 372. Waterdrop Plus has NSF/ANSI 401, 53, 42 & 372. NSF 53 is the one that decreases contaminants that are health-related.

Just a few bucks more for the plus in my size:

Yep, and NSF 372 is a bullshit certification. It doesn't qualify the filter as reducing lead contamination, it only certifies that the filter itself doesn't contain an appreciable amount of lead.

NSF 53 (filters out heavy metals and germs) and 401 (filters out various chemical contaminants) is what you want for a quality filter.

had bad experiences with generic filters - finding slimy clear film in my cups after a while. Think i'll stick with Whirlpool EveryDrop brand for the edr3rxd1 filter my Kenmore uses

I'm having a hard time finding a filter for my Whirlpool I just bought. My model (WRS571CIHV) says it takes EDR1RXD1 filter. Was anyone able to find a deal on those? I have a well and am trying to reduce the egg smell as much as possible, it's not bad now but enough for my wife and kids to not want to drink it.

I don't think you'll find a fridge filter capable of handling the egg smell very well. The carbon in fridge filters can reduce sulfur smell a bit. My friend who has a well with sulfur smelling water had to install a whole house filtration system before their water heater. It has multiple stages with different targeted filtering at each stage.

As far as finding one, just search Amazon for EDR1RXD1--they sell the Everydrop filters, and they are pricey. Unfortunately it does not appear that Waterdrop manufactures a EDR1RXD1 (Whirlpool 1) filter--not listed on Amazon or their own website.

I managed to score a half-dozen Everydrop filters on clearance at our local Sears Hometown store when it went out of business a couple years back. We're down to two on the shelf--after that supply is gone I don't yet have an answer as to where to find them cheaper than Amazon.

How do these compare to Everydrop filters? Everydrop is so expensive, but I'm worried that these won't filter out as much contaminants.
