You must use the heatsink version for it to work in a PS5.
Not sure if an aftermarket heatsink would be fine, but for sure there needs to be some passive cooling used with this drive.

Oh good catch! I didn't notice this came without a heatsink.

Edit: Here's the one with a built in heatsink. $40 more though…

Yes if your use case is like PS5 which accesses SSD massively.
No if you only access it in low-intensity or if you are fine with thermal throttling when it gets too hot because of continuous fast operations.
Nowadays games are tens or hundreds of GB. Loading game may cause temp raise quickly. On the other hand, occasionally saving your work files is consider light use of SSD.
