Agree. If you hand rake sections of your yard to dethatch this is a good deal and best $64 you'll spend. But I have the Sunjoe (from SD alerts ) and besides the dethatcher drum with wire tines that do a good job I really like the scarifier drum that easily swaps out in the Sunjoe. Every fall there are portions of my backyard that get beat up with kids play all summer. For reseeding this was best thing ever . Allowed me to take reseed job from 1+ days of effort (by hand) to just a couple of hours start to finish . Blades adjust and loosen soil to a good depth for grass seed and leave small lines of furrows . This post is great price for dethatcher - but if you find yourself reseeding set a deal alert for Sunjoe and get both for usually under $80 or so.
If you look at reviews vs the sun joe and others, this one is commonly rated as the worst. Also doesn't include scarify blade. I'm still holding out for that walmart sun joe sale to come back like last year lol

Got this on last years deal for $50 something. Got 4 trash cans of thatch from a 2000 ft lawn. Grass is greener than its ever been. Fair warning, the catcher is far too small, but doing this by hand is a terrible chore.

Based of comments it best to wait for the sun Joe dethatcher/scarifier? How much did it go on sale last time?

I have a ton of Greenworks 60V tools.
Their products have always worked well for me over the years.
I did use this (from a neighbor) a couple years ago.
While much easier / quicker then using a rake, it is kind of a pain in that you have to fight against your cord as you go.
I have been holding on to hope that they release a cordless version.

I bought this deal in hopes of preparing the soil for seeding. If you scalp and then run the tines does it loosen the soil? They claim this goes 3/8" deep which would in theory be adequate for seeding.

Is this thing safe for the sprinkler system? Detached my lawn once by hand and never want to do it again that way. Thanks.

I just moved to a house with lawn and just bought a lawn mower recently to start mowing. What is this? It makes small holes all over the lawn? When and why do you use this? Do you buy lawn seed and after making holes, put seeds in that hole?

I know people love these dethatchers, but my experience absolutely sucked with a SunJoe. I think it all depends on the size of your yard. For me, I was like 2 hours into dethatching (before even raking up the debris) and just gave up. These things are so incredibly slow and get clogged up (I didn't use the bagger) - not to mention trying to avoid running over your 2x100 extension cords. I'm maybe 16k sq ft of turf. Personally never dethatching again - I'll continue to rent an aerator in the fall, but this is literally an entire day job and I don't have time for that.

If you really want to dethatch, I'd recommend renting a gas powered one. Yes, it's about the same price as buying one of these - but the experience probably won't be terrible. And even then, raking up all the dead grass is another few hours.

Bought one used for about $40 off of amazon. This is a good price and a good product.
