Yes I realize this is several generations behind the current model. This is a great camera and a great option for owners of the 5/6/7 because it can use the same battery. The stabilization is amazing. Cheaper than Best Buy price.
I have the hero 7 black and it's a great little camera. The 8 was an incremental upgrade and probably a great camera as well. I haven't kept up with all the bells and whistles but looking at the video I took with the 7 I don't really see how much better things could get vs the price premium paid for the latest and greatest.
Maybe if you're aim is content creation go with the newest model but for fun vacation camera or personal use I don't see how you can go wrong with this.

Disclaimer: I have no experience with the GoPro 6,7,8,9, or 10. I had a 5 something, went to a DJI action OSMO, and now I'm looking at the HERO 10 Black as my next upgrade.

Yeah that's a much better deal with the accessories and extra batteries. That floating handgrip is what I used pretty much the whole time while in the water, rafting and on speed boat.

All the ones after Hero 5 will overheat the batteries if used when it's warm out. If it's summer it will shut off on you over and over and the battery swells up and will no longer fit. The batteries will even swell up and be very hard to get back out.
I've had 5 batteries go bad in less than a year. They have warranties, but after I got one replaced, they gave me a hard time when I tried to get another one replaced, even though I showed them different receipts and pics. They told me I already got one free battery, but finally ended replacing it.
FYI. I used it to make fishing videos from my Kayak and ran it for several hours every trip. The GoPro 5 didn't do this.
I would only but this if you only plan on using it for short periods or you power it straight off an external powerbank.
I signed up for the GoPro subscription @ a 50% off intro price ($25 for 1 year iirc) then sent in a broken Hero 5 Session under their no questions asked replacement policy. I called in as well because I had some questions about their submission form, and the CSR waived the replacement deductible under the condition that I accept a Hero 9 Black instead of a Hero Session 5 because they no longer had any Hero 5 Sessions in production.
So very YMMV, but if you happen to have an old broken GoPro (I think currently Hero 5 is as old as they're covering under the plan) you could get an even newer camera than this deal for an all in cost of as low as $25.

which I think might be a better deal for most people
While looking up reviews and comparisons, I came across this video. The biggest difference in the 7 and 8 is the stabilization. You can see it in the running scenes below.
