You can rent this for free if it's available at your local auto retailer like O Reilly or autozone

If you do any amount of home auto, there is no substitute for this if you need it. And this is a great price!

And not just for cars. In general, if something is stuck somewhere and you can't get it out, this works wonders. I also have spreader attachments that allow the slide hammer to pull out just about anything with a hole in it.

There's substitutes, just not good ones if you're trying to remove a part without marring the surface. A pipe wrench clamped to a wheel hub and hit with a sledge hammer will get it off.

Also as mentioned this is one that Autozone and some other stores rent for free if you're not going to need it frequently.

I ordered this previously for list price. Haven't regretted it. Occasionally a need pops up when you least expect it, and having this on hand can be a major time and effort saver. It's a well built/machined set, worth the regular price let alone the sale price IMO.

Outside of pulling hub from bearing knuckle, what types of projects is this good for? I'm just trying to justify the purchase ha

You are correct. If an autoparts store with free rentals is available nearby and you're not too terribly concerned with it being in stock or which condition it is when you need it, you should pass on this tool. I have one of these from OTC and can recommend either of them--especially if it's on sale, you do your own suspension work, or if you've had bad experiences with free rentals being in stock or being all jacked up by a previous renter. Similarly, although I'm glad O'Reilly still offers it, I also no longer rent their 1/2" torque wrench.

Camelcamelcamel says the lowest price was $68 in 2019. You're not going to beat the current price, ever. There are lesser kits and lesser brands for similar pricing but I pulled the trigger. Good deal

Thats not what this is for. Try getting a fried bearing race out of a dana 30 or 44 axle without a slide hammer. Also the autozone loaners are almost never complete and you may not have the piece you need.

These are all available for free rental from Oreilley or Autozone. But I'm done renting/returning em all the time. Pulling the trigger on this set. No more wasting time(money) picking these up anymore. thanks!
