Does this have the ability to have the internal storage removed, and placed in another enclosure? I'm looking to the future, in case the usb port fails on this.

This is not a USB drive. It's an internal SATA drive.

It could be placed in an external enclosure which would connect via USB

Maybe close to 5 years ago I spent over 100 on 500gb drive and look where we are now. Crazy

This is a better deal (cost per TB) than the 4 TB drive that I ordered. Thinking I should cancel that and get this instead. I probably don't need the 4 TB...

That was over a year and a half ago. I bought a 2TB Samsung SSD for $100 and have a 3-2023 manufacturing date. More than likely, all the problematic 2TB drives have already been sold or recalled.

Price-matched at OfficeMax/OfficeDepot since I had rewards to use.

What a pain in the butt that was. Live chat, then having to call. Dumb.

Pretty much all of the batches of the 870 EVO made between 2020 and 2023 are affected by this issue
(so it's not just "certain batches" anymore).

Even if you update them to the newer SVT02B6Q firmware right out of the box, they will still fail.

And the new batches from 2023 (with the brand new SVT03B6Q firmware) are still too new to know if it has fixed anything yet.

I guess I'll pass on these, too. too bad
