NR200 @ $10 isn't repeatable, so let's say $80-$100 for a SFF case. Plus you need some fans, so your total is closer to $600.

No 10GbE or TB4 with that B660I, but the GPU 2-slot limit is a valid point.

Everything's a tradeoff. You don't (usually) buy this as a banger gaming rig. You buy it for the wow/cool factor. If I'm building a maxed out gaming rig, I'm making a different choice. But this is a different beast (or dragon).

NUC: 14.1" x 7.4" x 4.7"
NR200: 11.50" x 7.28" x 14.80"

Completely different leagues in terms of size. Less than half the volume. IF that matters to you, the NUC is pretty much the only game in town. And seriously the build quality is amazing. I built an SFF PC in a little Hyte Revolt 3 case for my son recently that I was really proud of. This is about 10 steps up from that.

Also the $10 NR200 deal isn't a thing anymore. Price is really about $70. So let's do a real comparison in price:

Case: NR200 - $70 (still a good deal)
Fans: 2x 120mm - $30'ish (for quality)
Decent Cooler: $50'ish (for moderate quality...I'd pay more for Noctua)
Mobo: Z690 ASRock: $250
Processor: 12700K - $250
10G Ethernet: Thunderbolt Adapter - $150'ish (no PCIe slots available)
PSU: SFX 750 - $100

Total: $900

EDIT: forgot about the Thunderbolt support, so upgraded the mobo to reflect that reality.

Of course if you're not a 10GBe person, then drop that from the total.

And then spend hours assembling, cable managing, applying band-aids to cut fingers, etc. Again, tradeoffs.

The motherboard has thunderbolt. Show me an itx mobo with Thunderbolt for $110. You won't find one.

Have to agree here. This is how I value the parts

Case - $80
Mobo - $350
Processor - $250
PSU - $100

Total = $780

I'm not including the fans, Intel tax, etc… sounds like a good deal for anyone who wants an extreme

What are the chances I could swap a i5-12400 and the BIOS not freak out?

I have another SFF PC with a 12400 + 3090. Was thinking about buying this, taking the 12700 out for my 12400.

It's a socketed LGA 1700 w/ Z690 chipset and a pretty bog standard Intel BIOS, so likely the chances are pretty good. They'd have to pretty much go out of their way to remove support for the 12400.

Will have to disagree.
Case: NR200 - $10
Mobo: B660I Gigabyte - $110
Processor: 12700K - $250
PSU: SFX 750 - $100
Total: $470

Trade off is you can put up to 4x slot GPU vs 2 slots on these. But the cost is larger case.

After bargain-hunting my way through an NR200 build, this is a very competitive price point.

My cost of these components came out $50 higher than the NUC and the NUC is significantly smaller

doesn't that just mean intel isn't going to come out with any more prebuilt's? how does that impact this deal at all?

It might mean there are more substantial discounts on Intel NUCs coming. Maybe not, I wouldn't bet on it.

If someone already thinks $750 is a bad price, maybe keep an eye out or set a deal alert for Intel NUCs.

Is it worth paying $600 more for 4 more cores https://www.microcenter.com/produ...uc12dcmi9? I have an 8 core ryzen desktop right now from a few years ago. Not much of a gamer, but would like the option. The microcenter one used to be $1249 a few days ago, so maybe it'll go back down again?

Yes, more NUC discounts are coming. Intel NUC has been discontinued.

Cutting off all supply doesn't bring prices down unless most people are turned off the product because it was discontinued.

I don't see that's a big deal, by the time it'll matter, this will be out of date.
