Garage ready units have a built in heater to heat up the refrigerator section in the winter... because otherwise your food in the fridge section will freeze in extreme cold, which you don't want.
Some refrigerator companies sell external garage ready conversions for their fridge if they are not already from the factory.
So in short I think being garage ready is not as important for freezer only units.
I've got a freezer and a side-by-side in my garage and over the last 2 years we have seen temps close to 0 in the winter and 110 in the summer. The freezer is probably 10 years old and I've never had an issue. The side-by-side is probably 20+ years old and no issues really. i will say on the side-by-side I did have an issue with the freezer thawing in the winter. After some research I found out the freezers temp is actually based on the temp of the of the refrigerator side. Once I turned the temp down more in the fridge the freezer side was fine.
My wife really wants this freezer but I feel like a glutton knowing that would make us having 4 freezers and all of them are full.
This price is ridiculous. Maybe for double+ the volume, but not this size. I got in on that 30 cu ft chest freezer from Costco for $350. Granted, that was a great deal. This one, however, seems like a really inflated price.

For freezers it generally means the unit was tested to operate from 0 - 110 F.

But that leaves me thinking; how does the fridge prevent food from freezing over in extreme cold?
