Only supports 2 drives HARD PASS
8TB (2 x 4TB) of SSD not enough for you? Apart from the m18 (and only the 4080 and 4090 configs at that), what other laptops have 3 or more SSD slots that makes this a "hard pass"?

Personally, I'd be complaining more about the 1080p screen being the only option on this model. 1080p looks OK on a 14" but a 17" screen not so much.

I like to keep my stuff physically separate.

0.5 TB for my OS
2 TB for apps and games
2 TB for work data
2 TB for personal data

6.5 TB total and all the data drives are full. I'm using external drives.

Ideally, I'd love 4 x SSD so I can just to a 1:1 volume upgrade to:

1 TB for my OS
2 TB for apps and games
8 TB for work data
8 TB for personal data
Personal preferences aside, you didn't reference any other laptops with 4 drives that would be better than this "hard pass"? Again, the M18 has 4, but you need the 4080 or 4090 config. When you say "hard pass" one assumes there are many other choices.

Not to mention what he wants is hugely inefficient. You don't see 4 bay laptops because it's not practical. Just build a desktop if you really need it that way.

Plus the fact that 8TB drives are about $1000 each. LMAO

Why is Dell only putting 1080p options in their laptops lately? When are they going to have 4k OLED options? It's high time as this technology has matured greatly

They aren't. This X17R2 happens to only offer 1080p, but the X14R2, X15R2 and M18 (and others) offer QHD 1440p 240Hz screens.

OLED would be nice, too, but you don't have high refresh rate OLED's.

the other deal is much better
or the 3070ti which is still available https://slickdeals.net/f/16785092-dell-alienware-m17-r5-laptop-ryzen-9-6900hx-17-1080p-1tb-ssd-rtx-3070-ti-1125-free-shipping
Sort of apples and oranges. The X-series is a better quality, thinner and lighter laptop than the m-series. X17 also puts the ethernet port on the back, where it belongs, instead of on the side, as the M17R5 does. If you're looking for the best value with compromises, then maybe the M17R5 would be good for some, but I'm preferring the sleek, solid build of the X-series (currently have X14 and X15R2).

Your point is valid. I was just thinking about price/performance vise m17r5 is better, 3070ti laptop and 3080ti laptop are very close in 1080p performance. And they are ~$600 difference before tax. Definitely check reviews for both laptops when choosing one.

The major problem here is the resolution. It's only 1080p and a much cheaper 1070ti or 4070 dlss3 would have better performance results. If we were talking 1440p this would be worth it. It's just a bad configuration and you'd have to research a little bit to figure it out

We take our laptops everywhere and when we want to watch a show, our screen limits our output to 1080p. That's what I mean. Yes, the 2K is optional as well, you are right but we're hoping for 4K
