When Ninja Gaiden originally came out (circa 2004), it was described as a stylish beat-em-up ala Devil May Cry, but with move-lists more resembling that of a fighting game (e.g. Virtua Fighter, Tekken, or Dead or Alive). It was known, among other things, for its punishing difficulty. The developers furthered that reputation by intentionally making the game more difficult every time it was re-released.

soul games requires you to know exact boss movements and strike when opportunity allows, it places heave a emphasis on block and evade.
whereas street fighter's difficulty mainly came from (for amateur players anyway) performing combos in short windows, and that largely applies to Ninja Gaiden.
for what's worth, I dislike the second type, Forward + X, X, Forward + Y, Y, Forward + Hold Y 2 just for one move felt a lot like back arcade machine day where the challenges are put in place purely to eat coins.
Any way, the 3rd is the weakest in the series. If this was $9.99 I'd jump on it, but at $27.99 a little much. Especially since I would never play the 3rd one again as once I beat it, I just never wanted to go through it again.
