Heads up, make sure you hardly have anything on your table when you raise it or IT WILL BREAK. It's not well made and I had to spend a few hours patching holes and reinforcing the bars. Just something to think about. If you put stuff on your tables, this isn't for you (I'm talking to you my ADHD ppl lol) 😂😭

Oh! I am SO dead wrong!
I just checked it out and yeah...it's absolutely strong enough to hold food and a computer while up! You'd just have to be very careful not to put too much pressure towards the back of the top...I added an imagine to make this make more sense haha.
Otherwise it feels solid as a rock!

But I'd still be worried lol...as soon as you start applying pressure to the back (where I've circled in the image below) it starts to glide back down. It'd be something you'd have to be very conscious of.
Again, I don't think it's designed to be used while up...but it is very sturdy and could be if you use caution.

I've had this thing for something like 10 years now and love it. It's a nice size and at a nice height, it's very sturdy and the hinges (lol I don't know what they're called atm) are pretty stiff so they hold the top up well and they've not loosened at all on me over the years (though to be honest, I don't open it a whole heck of a lot).

No, I would not trust it at all for this. Nor would I trust using my laptop on it while the top is raised up. It feels sturdy, but I don't think it's intended to be used with the top up and it doesn't take much to push it back down. It holds small things just fine while up (remotes, small electronics, books/magazines, etc etc)...but I'd be scared that if I had a laptop (or plates and bowls with food) the top would be pushed back down.

I have had one of these for the past couple of years. The raise up feature is nice and the hinges function well. The quality of the wood is F minus. Scotch tape pulled off the veneer finish. Placing a wet glass leaves a raised ridge somehow. Have about half a dozen circular marks on mine. First one I ordered came dented. I requested a replacement part from the manufacturer and they just sent me a whole new coffee table (with the corner broken).

Thank you for clarifying because my sister has one of these and we use the raise up feature for eating all the time. It has been super sturdy. Just be careful to pull evenly from both sides when you raise or lower it so as to not excessively stress one of the hydraulic arms or cause something to slide/spill.

Don't lean on it, but I use it as a desk and we eat on them often. These are really good. Just be careful returning the top down, they can slam if you don't ease them down. Also, they are particle board so be careful moving them if you want them to last. We're very happy with them. They look higher quality than they probably are, but we've had them for several months and they've been great.

One tip... I accidentally installed the lift opposite of the instructions on the first table, so the knobs ended up facing the room instead of the user. It looks way better that way, so I did it on the second one too.

Bought this with a faux marble top ~5 years ago.

Cons:
- some water intrusion is bubbling the top ~3yrs in but I've loved it so far. I'd like to replace the top alone with only black

Pros:
-cheap and looks great
- Great for extra storage.

I've eaten on it with the top extended fine just be wary of the center of gravity of the weigh of the top vs table and stuff in it.

If stuff on top is heavy, slowly lower it otherwise it will slam shut
