I have a bunch of them and they really do prolong the life of things. Not everything works but they help keep the fruits or veggies out of the condensation. I've noticed probably 1-2 weeks longer vs. just letting it sit in the fridge. As a single person who loves to cook it keeps produce alive longer in the fridge. I was kind of curious how long certain things would last and I had a package of carrots that stayed plump for over a month vs. looking like wrinkled things just in the veggie drawer.
Maybe it's my own confirmation bias, but once I started taking things out of the produce bags, wrapping herbs in paper towels and tossing all the loose fruits and veggies directly into their respective drawers without any packaging, all my produce started lasting a lot longer.

How do these compare to the rubbermaid ones that don't need the rechargeable inserts?
The inserts are completely optional / not necessary.....either way these things aren't miracle workers but i guess help prevent some rot/breakdown. I end up using them as a strainer mostly.

Do you need to change out the carbon inserts pretty regularly?

Wrap your dry lettuce in aluminum foil. It lasts for 3 weeks.

I'd love to try this but where i get my produce nothing is dry. I put paper towels on the top and store it upside down. We finish a container in 5 days so that helps.
I almost bit, but thinking about it, I don't like additional cost and the consumable aspect of the carbon packs. Also I feel like these would just add to the procrastination of using my veggies. Knowing their quality degrades and will eventually spoil usually makes me use them within a week. Just sayin'

I agree! We use the Rubbermaid versions, but they really do work well.

I'm gonna try putting some bags of activated carbon [amazon.com] in my produce box to see if it makes a difference.
