I use led shop lights I got from Costco for grow lights. I also put a kasa smart plug to control them. Worked beautiful with doing the double solo cup method for the seadlings. No need to buy grow lights.

I have had one of these for 3-4 years, use it for 4 hours a day during the winter months. No issues and I control it with a Kasa smart outlet.

Just read through some articles about people needing parts (including lights). I have a farm and need a new light panel as some of the LEDs have gone out and it looks like out of warranty is toast. Frown I'm this case it's just the light so "buy a new one" makes more sense, but it sucks I can't get parts. Frown

I guess it depends on the use case, but this seems similar to some of the 25.00 generic lights that are out there. Is there a significant benefit in the name brand here?

Thanks for the idea...i am also thinking of doing the same...A couple of questions...
how do you maintain the temperature...shop lights do not emit heat...
and how far are they from the plants?

This is correct for seedlings (as I know you've stated), but this is the internet and someone will gloss over the seedlings part and verbally crucify you later because their plants aren't flowering, so I just want to state that grow lights do have their place when your intent is to grow to the point of flowering (and for an optimal grow spectrum) Smilie

So if I get this can I just buy a small pot and grow anything seed pod kit to grow herbs? Or do I need anything else?

You'll at least need dirt and water. Maybe fertilizer.
