I find it funny that there are five news articles about e bike fires everyday, but not one thread of factual information about the root cause of the problem. From everything I can gather, most issues come from the charger- charger getting to hot, charging for too long, or charging via the use of an extension cord. I have had five e bike batteries under my care the last several years with no issue. I only charge when I'm present, only charge for about four hours at a time, and only use the charger that came with the battery

I find that argument to be made in bad faith. The very first article I found when searching ebike fires will tell you that this is a new industry and largely unregulated. Any ebike manufacturer that adheres to UL standards does so voluntarily, not because they need to. That means the entire burden of not having a faulty or disastrous situation stem from a cheap ebike falls entirely on the consumer.

Here are the articles that pop up with a simple search:
  • What's driving the battery fires with e-bikes and scooters?
  • Everything you need to know about e-bike battery fires
  • Some E-bike batteries can explode. Here's how to stay safe.
  • How E-Bike Battery Fires Became a Deadly Crisis in New York
Claiming that there's no factual information about what's happening is just lazy.

So you are claiming that every single other battery that is made in China for every other product all are safe but somehow batteries from ebikes, and only ebikes, are dangerous?

If you don't think $600 is a lot in any year, you don't need to be on Slickdeals

No, I am making the argument that when you have a lucrative industry that is unregulated, there are more incentives to cut corners and to manufacture something that is more dangerous.

Its unpacked and wow, we really love it! For $600 what else is on the market that is equivalent. Fortunately we haven't had any issues so I can't speak on customer service. Only tried it around the black a couple of times since its been raining alot here but plan on using it alot over the weekend.

There are alot of reviews about this bike on youtube.. thats one of the reasons I didn't worry too much about what I was getting.

If it's so concrete, what information did you just provide to enlighten us on the direct cause of these fires?

Does anybody know the weight of this bike? And can you easily pedal this bike, let's say for about 5 miles on a flat grade? I got rid of my last 3 ebikes. They were quite lousy when the batteries decided to die on you.
