In the US, the economy is too strong and unemployment is too low, which is why we have inflation and why the fed is tying to slow the economy down by raising interest rates. The recession that was predicted never materialized and the financial experts that were worried about it have drastically reduced their concerns.
If retail stores are closing, it's because of specific mismanagement, underperforming locations, or the trend to on-line purchasing. And frequent sales at DTO are the norm and have been since the start. It is their M.O. and has little to do with your perceptions of the state of the economy.
Guys, let's stop the dumbass arguments about the economy. It was funny for a while as someone that works in that field/industry, but it's not only annoying bc most of you are talking out of your ass or in technicalities to prove your flawed points, it's totally off topic. This about getting a badass deal on some tools, not your personal beliefs on economics with a side of politics
This 2 tool combo of the pole saw + pruning saw + 2AH battery + charger is at about the lowest price it's been. The big draw of this is that they're both oil-free designs, so you don't need to worry about them leaking everywhere. I own the polesaw but missed out on getting the smaller saw. Polesaw works great and I like being able to just store it without worrying about leaking oil. While it does work well, I'll say that the chain isn't the highest quality. It may be worth upgrading the chain to some sort of Oregon chain in the future (though I have yet to do that yet).
It fits it just right. You can find another bag; this specific bag the zippers could be better but they work well enough.
The blade on the polesaw has a real crappy plastic scabbard on the blade; seems to only exist for shipping and is disposable. You can get one of these and it gives it a nice cheap cover: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09GMCRMC7
That one fit just perfectly, but you can find 8" plastic chainsaw scabbards from other sellers.
With the bag and the scabbard, I can store the polesaw safely in the bag and just keep it in the closet. That's the value of the oil-free design imo is being able to store it anywhere really, and I like being able to keep it in the bag ready to go since I can just throw it in car and assemble it on site.
I didn't realize these were oil-free, now I'm very tempted.

Come on, man. What is the correlation between "too strong and too low" with the inflation? Inflation means too much printed money and less things to buy. They raises interest to reduce the circulating money. Plain and simple to reduce inflation.
HD Link here ^ for reviews and MSRP ($299); this feels like a good deal.
I bought the pole saw + 1.5Ah Battery + charger last year for ~$108 shipped iirc. This same kit was $150. I've seen this kit go down to $130 I -think-, but not sure. However, it doesn't go down that low often for sure, so I'd say It's a great price.

TL;DR they figured out that if the chain speed is below 5 meters/sec then it doesn't need oil. Hence, the oil-free saws are only 8" blades. It fits a nice niche since nobody really likes dealing with oil and this gives you something truly convenient to do some quick chopping on branches that aren't too thick.
For a first time homeowner, with no tools, which one of these 3 offers better value?:
• RYOBI 18V ONE+ 8-Tool Combo Kit $219.99 (PCL1800K3N)
• RYOBI 18V ONE+ HP Brushless 8-Tool Combo Kit $339.99 (PBLCK108K2)
• RYOBI 18V ONE+ HP Compact Brushless 6-Tool Combo Kit $239.99
I believe this is the best deal YMMV
• RYOBI 18V ONE+ HP Brushless 8-Tool Combo Kit $339.99 (PBLCK108K2)
I compared top 2 in your list. (see attachment)
The other 6 tool set is not an option in my mind, the right angle drill is interesting if you need it , and the cutoff tool is ok, but the grinder in the PBLCK108K2 set is better.
PBLCK108K2 Original price is 689.99
PCL1800K3N Original price is 329.99

I personally would choose the 8tool hp brushless kit.
Couple months back bought the angle grinder(with battery) for 150. I have an older 5 piece kit I bought 179 years ago. And I bought non hp impact for 80 years ago aswell. You are getting much better tools for less than I've spent over the years

Damn so that 8 tool kit I was kicking myself for overthinking and not getting last flash sale is at its lowest price ever now. It's making me wonder: why does it keep going on sale? It's not even a holiday. Are they not selling enough? Could this mean it'll be cheaper for future holidays?
If you can use it, buy it now. If you don't need it, don't buy it.
Don't second guess and worry about kicking yourself over 10 bucks later.
The economy in general isn't doing well and it's world wide. Notice even walmart is closing stores, some are going under all together like bed bath and beyond. Past 3 years 160,000 retail stores have closed in the US. Sales volume for just about every industry, even dollar stores, have dropped significantly. Companies are forced to reduce inventory at deep discount now, or be stuck with it and have to sell later for almost nothing. You will see more sales and deeper discounts the worse the economy gets.
This is comment is so wrong it is amazing. The economy is booming - unemployment is at a 50 year low, and consumption is at a high. Local retail has been suffering from competition with online retailers for years, but even local retail is doing better now than it was a few years ago. Further the U.S. (which is what's relevant for this post), is doing better than basically any other developed economy in the world.
The economy isn't as bad as the original poster said but it isn't amazing either. Inflation is a big problem and even if we get goods inflation under control (which seems to be happening) housing is still a big problem.
But yea, don't judge the economy buy deep discounts at retail stores

Let me guess, global warming isn't real, all the heatwaves world wide are fake news, the Canadian wildfires are fake news, the earth is flat and the Apollo moon landing happened in a hollywood studio right ? My last guess, your an anti vaxxer aren't you ? Am I right ?
I think you forgot to turn friendly fire off.

For storage of the polesaw, I'd recommend this greenworks polesaw bag: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01ID8838Q
