I got in with the orginal deal without any issues. There was a lot of misinformation in the orginal thread, but yes, all you have to do it just activate the phone with the fi app, then take the Fi SIM out and never touch it again (sock drawer it, trash it, etc). You can pop in a SIM from another carrier with no problem. After 120 days have passed you can verify that it's finalized in your fi account > savings > earned. At that point you can do whatever you want, the discount is yours to keep.

I think a significant difference here is we are not getting the storage upgrade for free? I got this deal last time but got the s23 ultra with 512gb for the same price as they are offering the 256gb.

My first bill was Aug 12. I activated on Aug 15. It was showing the phone as activated by a new member regardless of SIM. I deleted the app and put the "new" SIM that shipped with the phone. I downloaded the FI app and it went through activation. When I go to billing, it's no longer there. Hoping it corrects itself overnight when it phones home to Fi. If not, I guess try opening a chat or returning? Hope not because I did a flawless install of Whitestone Glass!
* Your first bill was on Aug 12, but did you order the S23 before or after the first bill was available?

Here are the steps as described in my tip post:
7. When you receive your S23 phone, the SIM should be already installed. Install the Fi app from Google Store and run it to activate the S23.
8. The Fi app should display a message saying your current Fi service is on another phone (the BYOD phone). It'll ask for permission to transfer service from the BYOD phone to the S23. Give it the OK. Your current Fi service, phone number, billing will be transferred to the S23. That will start your required 120 days of service for the S23 deal.

* When you went through the activation process, did the Fi app at any point ask for the OK to transfer service from the BYOP phone to the S23? If it did ask and you gave the OK, then you're fine.

* You wrote "When I go to billing, it's no longer there.", what is no longer there?

* Is the S23 working now WITH ITS PRE-INSTALLED SIM? If yes, what phone number is on it? If it's the phone number that was on the BYOP SIM, then you're OK.

* When did you activate the S23? It takes 24 hrs from activation for the checklist to show the updated info.

I think my error was ordering before my first bill. I saw the offer and thought that would be sufficient. I did a chat with them and they said I'm eligible and linked to the requirements. I'll see if the app updates in a day or two. If not, I'll follow up with them. I have until August 30 to return.

A good indicator is whether or not the FI app ever said that your Fi service was on another phone (the BYOP phone) and asked for the OK to transfer service to your S23 SIM. If it did not do that at anytime during the activation process (including your putting different SIMs into the S23), then your promotion likely will be disqualified.

After a few inquiries, they said they updated their systems. Now all three requirements are checked. Hoping tomorrow I have a countdown to completing the requirements. Thanks for all your help.

Good to hear things are moving in the right direction. A good example for people planning to do the deal to be patient and not ordering the phone too soon if they want to avoid the hassles.

I don't think it's possible or advisable to change the Fi phone number after activation and before completing the promotion. If you currently have service with another provider and prefer to use that SIM/phone number, you can use that physical SIM in the S23 phone after activating and removing the Fi SIM. You can also transfer service from the other provider to the eSIM of the S23.

If you want to port in a number to FI, it should be done when activating the BYOP Fi SIM which gives you a choice of getting a new number or port-in a number.
I gave it a try confirming twice with the support reps, and I think it worked!. As after porting in the number my counter still going down for last few days . Finger crossed ..

My Fi S23 256GB phone is model SM-S911U1. U1 is the US factory-unlocked version. I suppose the Fi S23+ would be SM-S916U1 and the Fi S23U would be SM-S918U1.

I just ordered this and it worked, no problem. I got the 512GB for $837 after taxes.

Thank you! I did not find this on my own on the Google Fi site.

* You have to ACTIVATE the S23 SIM card in the S23 phone. You cannot USE the S23 SIM card in another phone.
* The Fi S23 has one physical SIM slot and one eSIM. If you want to use another provider's SIM in the S23, either ADD it as an eSIM, or remove the FI physical SIM and use the other provider's physical SIM in place of the Fi SIM.

im clear on the part where you're not allowed to use the S23u sim on any other device for 120days; however, doesnt the s23u have 2 sim slots? can i run 2 providers in tandem? eg. the Fi card, plus whatever else? or is esim the only way to do this without disrupting the 120day clock?

The Fi S23 models (S23, S23+, S23U) do not have two physical SIM slots. Most Samsung phones (unlocked or carrier-specific) for the US market do not have dual physical SIM.
