Just know you need to vacuum the lines out to remove water and oxygen. So you need a vacuum and guage set. Code requires a disconnect box near the unit. And it should sit on a concrete pad or rack. These are all additional costs you might not be aware of. I just installed one of these and I want to say, don't just match wire colors or you could fry the thing. The use white as line 2 and red as communication between the indoor and outdoor units.

I installed a costway. The remote control stopped working. They sent me a new one no questions asked.

With the bosch unit, the indoor unit drip pan had a crack and they wouldnt even hear my request to escalate it to tech support because a licensed hvac tech didnt install it.

Bruh, 9k is more than enough if any insulation at all lol

I recently installed 18k for a 500 SQ ft living room with 15 ft ceilings and it's far more than enough even when 95F.

18k won't dehumidify such a small space.

Does anyone know if there have been any good deals for dual zones mini splits? Tried searching with no luck and online it seems like it's 2k minimum. It's a 500 and 700 sq foot room so I can probably get away with a 21k.
I have a dual zone. Hindsight says to just install two.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and to each his own. Since these are variable speed systems, going larger won't hurt a thing. I've done it and no issues in 5 years (knock on wood). In fact, if you will be doing any heating with a mini-split, I would oversize it a little anyway. When the temps get below freezing they work a little harder, the outside coils frost up more, etc., to pump in some heat. Also, with 120F summers you might like the extra cooling capacity. Especially if you have to occasionally open a garage door, etc.
Oversizing a little is one thing, oversizing too much is another. Variable speed doesn't mean from 1%-100%. All variable units have a certain minimum speed, and sometimes it's higher than one expects, which can lead.to short cycling and the issues the other person was referring to. Size to what the manufacturer recommends. Or use the pioneer calculator - it's pretty detailed.

I thought these come precharged or is that just for Mr. Cool ones?

they do, but you need to vac the line down first before releasing the Freon.

Thats insane. I contacted one in Miami and he asked for $400.
It does sound crazy, but true. I asked someone recently in SC and was told $1k to install a mini split that I would provide. For $400 I'd say yes. For $1k, I'll probably do it myself.

Bigger isn't always better. These should be properly sized. Look up an online Manual J calculator and run the numbers.
False. Max that baby out

Sketchy that they don't advertise low-temp performance.

If you don't need it for heat, then probably fine for a budget A/C?

Thank you. So I just watched a video. If I understand this correctly, this brand you need to vac out the line. Mr. Cool ones do not need that step, is that correct?

you should always vac out the line when installing any system. upon holding a neg vac pressure there wont be any leaks and you can release the Freon.

I have just consulted with one licensed HVAC that I was told is honest and good. He quoted me 1-2k to install one unit.

I really wish I could find one installer in the $500- range. I have 4 units to install.
It's the same with electric car chargers. It's very popular right now and installers/electricians are charging $1-$2k for install, a lot also has to do with local incentives/rebates.

Has anybody installed these mini splits by renting the vacuum pump and manifold gauge from AutoZone? Was the vacuum pump strong enough and was it an issue that the manifold gauge isn't rated for HVAC refrigerant?
I rented a pump from Autozone to install two pioneers. The pump worked fine, but check the oil level while you are there because they will fill it if needed.
Bought a cheaper gauge set off Amazon. I was showing a leak when I pulled the vacuum. I think several of the seals on the gauge set were leaking. Returned that and got the pro brand Yellow Jacket manifold gauge set. That one works great.
