Answers to FAQ:
1. Summary: This is prepaid. No need to cancel. Just stop paying. Most will pay the forced first monthly fee (that comes with initial order) and then simply stop paying. best to use a virtual credit card like from citi for example or a privacy virtual card. initial order cost will be ~150 phone +~40 plan+ ~$15 tax= ~$205. create account on boost or get the app. make sure auto pay is off.
2. Phones are locked to boost,
must provide the seller imei of your phone. send the imei in "message for seller" when u pay.
after u pay, u should get the code back pretty quick. as soon as ~10 minutes.
Then put in a non boost sim. phone will ask for code. enter code u bought from ebay seller. u will be unlocked.
you can find many sellers for $2-4.
search for these seller:
dr.unlock or desbloquealord is quite popular and proven .
[posting direct link violates sd term. dont be lazy. search]
once unlocked, should remain unlocked, even if u run updates, factory restore, etc
the package will have phone and sim in same box. but sim is outside of phone box . No need to ever put in boost sim. infact, if u have no intention of using boost, it is probably a good idea not to insert the boost sim ever. do not sell the boost sim. it has your information on it.
8/19: users reporting ebay sellers that sell unlock code are no longer listed on ebay.
2a. Assuming unlocked. Phone has the bands to communicate with AT&T, T Mobile, and Verizon in the US. Your carrier may need to add the phone's IMEI number to their database before it can interface with the mobile towers.
5. after u place the order. in 2 days, the sim card will auto activate. while in transit to you. many folks are upset because this makes u loose 2-3 days while the phone comes to you. shipping time varies. some in CA take 1 week from order date to receive day. in east coast it may be as short as 1 day. once the item is shipped. u can create a account using computer. then get the app on a spare phone. login. then u can see the exact imei they are sending you.
6. Boost, Ting, and Dish TV are now one company. so do not need to unlock if using them
7. only 1 order per email address. if u want more. need new account w new email addy
8. after unlocking.
i. Work:
t mobile
Verizon
Tello
ii. NOT WORK:

good summary :
When ordering from Boost, the choices are getting a new number or keep old number. Should you choose getting a new number, Boost will ship the sim and phone pre-activated meaning you will lose service days when the item is in transit. So for people who want to get a full month of service, they will select keep old number but then go through setup for activation. During this setup, the user can choose either a new number or keep old number.
In order to transfer your At&t number to Boost, you would have to give Boost your At&t phone number, account number, and pin number. If you did that, then the process of number transfer has started. If you did not give that information to Boost, it would be impossible to have your number ported.
Even if you selected keep old number during the order process and chose not to activate the sim, Boost will likely activate the sim eventually. If you selected the keep number option at ordering and have no intention of activating the sim, it might be a good idea to keep monitoring the status of the sim in case it gets activated.
Also be aware that by default Boost enables autopay. Metro for instance has autopay disabled by default.
Activating the sim + disabling autopay is what I would suggest rather than just discarding the sim or trying to cancel the service.
Autopay status can be seen in 2 places. One is on the boostmobile.com site. The other is in the Boost One app. Disabling it in either place is fine.
Be aware that should you disable autopay and then decide to replace the payment method with a different card (like one with a low balance), Boost will re-enable autopay. Whenever there is a change in payment method, autopay will be re-enabled
PSA: Extra 21 dollars back at Boost on Capital one Cards YMMV

Major benefit to the a54 is that it's going to be updated for a lot longer.a54 we'll get Android 13 and 14 and 15 and this will probably just get Android 14. And it won't get security patches for as long.
Personally I would go with the Motorola but if I was recommending a phone to a casual user like my mom or my sister I might lean with the a54 just cuz it'll be secure for a longer period of time and they probably wouldn't make use of the flagship features like the desktop mode or the stylus.
The Motorola also has stylus support with an external stylus you can buy, an amazing desktop mode with a dock. Definitely a more premium piece of hardware
Was thinking of getting one but
Slow Moto Android upgrades, no dual sim, avg cam, large size stopped me.
Was going to get it for $50 with in store port in...but boost stores charge MSRP tax, activation fees, and higher plan... Similar to metro stores...so I didn't go that route.

this made me google the edge 2022 no plus and it's actually not half bad. it's powered by a mediatek dimensity 1050 which scores a quite respectable near 1k single core (within a few % of the SD 888, although multi core and GPU scores may be lower), (edit: never mind, appears slightly worse than SD 865 let alone SD 888) and is 144hz oled. Also the BB specs show it as 8/256 not 6/128 like the comment above.
that said 249.99 at best buy shows "unavailable" for "activate later" so it's effectively sold out anyway unless you want carrier strings.
BTW an aside a few weeks ago BB was offering 90 trade in (via a gift card I believe as well) for a nord N20 (which many may have picked up on these Metro deals)! Compare to their $20 value on a somewhat similar class phone the Galaxy A23! However last I checked it had already dropped to 50 TIV, much less compelling.
We're sorry your package was delayed. We are adjusting delivery plans as quickly as possible.

tldr:
my tale with this phone completed yesterday, when i sold the $300 bb GC for $270 to some one on FB MP. made ~$55.
most will NOT care of my story, but if u have time to kill, read on
was watching this since it was 200.
loved the idea of a FS phone for budget phone price.
saw some feedback from SD'ers who bought at 200 and were pleased with phone.
when price dropped to 150 i bought . intending to use as DD on TM.
(and created this thread)
total cost was ~205.OTD.
received phone and was easily able to unlock for $4 from ebay.
(much easier then , now gonna cost ~$40 if even possible)
used phone for some time.
overall it was ok. not spectacular.
(didnt appear that much faster than the a54 i was using as wifi device)
also, didnt like the fact there were no OS updates since feb.
(yes one can argue are they really important, but for me, they were)
(moto has/had bad rep for updates/support. it looked like this phone was abandoned)
waited (impatiently)
fast forward to some signal issues w TM, delay in picking up 5g when out on town .
and other minor inconveniences in addition to major inconvenience of support.
decided this phone was not for me.
saw the $300 bb gift card for trade in and took it.
(now is ~$50 i think)
(as did many folks here)
fast forward to reports that OS was finally getting updates.
considered getting another one ..lol..
(ultimately passed due to stock going in/out and difficulty in getting unlock)
may revisit the moto edge + (22/23) when BF comes around

even at 150 now, this is not that bad of a deal.
depends on what u r coming from and comparing to
for me, i am using aip13 (hate apples).
so i have a a54 ($94) waiting to get unlocked in ~10-15 days from metro deal.
that phone i actually like .
the speed differences was not that significant to me
if i didnt have the a54 , i would 100%
keep this phone. especially now since a OS update has been confirmed
when i bought this phone.
it was with the intention of using everday.
not to trade in for 300 or make "money" from the deal
but when that opportunity came....i simply couldnt passed. especially given the "warts " that i thought this phone had
i sold one of my 2 on swappa for like 150, guy returned it a few weeks later saying it wouldnt work on straight talk verizon. i think he just got buyers remorse. but it does seem verizon is troublesome so it's plausible.
it sucks selling anything on swappa/ebay cus afaik they go by paypal return policy, which is pretty much 6 months for any reason, which is ridiculous.
now i threw it on fb marketplace for 110 not many nibbles yet. phone is getting older by the day.
still a solid phone, with oled and a decent chip and 6/128. i'd be happy with it as a basic daily driver, it has the essentials. i am surprised how choppy 60 hz makes phones feel once you are used to 120 though.
to go back on topic i circled around this deal a lot, but i dont think so with unlock status dodgy currently.
i know my 8t isnt going to last forever, and part of me knows this is good as paying much more for the latest from one plus. but i'll probably keep waiting especially as my 8t is still trucking, especially since this doesnt unlock.
it's the sd curse, you cant keep buying everything just cus its a great deal lol

btw...i only sell on fb. all otherers too risky with "not as advertised" complaints and fees added
much safer on Fb. the lower amount u may get is more than acceptable when u factor in additional headache from the likes of ebay, swappa etc
They removed the line that said out for delivery

I was waiting on reports from the pixel 6a metro pcs deal to see if its bootloader would unlock after the 6 months required to get sim unlocked, however that phone appears to be OOS from Metro's website at this point, maybe A54 is a good alternative or even the new S23 FE, hopefully better deals appear next month

most likely it is simply delayed

but some may be using on boost.
or are ready to pay the 40 to unlock
myself, not going to do either.
if i do get, slim chance, id wait 2-4 months to see if ul code gets into unlockers systems.
but too many unknows at this point, so im most likely out
