Well, I just got the orbital sander on clearance at Lowes a few weeks ago, it's going to need a friend...

So tempting since this a great price! I love my other 12V Bosch tools so I have the batteries and everything ready to go... but I also have 2 other routers already... and I don't even do that much woodworking at the moment...
I have a lot of soul searching to do on this.

This router is good, not great. Handy as a 2nd or 3rd router that you rarely change for certain detail edge routing jobs. Or gets the job done if you rarely need a router. Not super powerful so don't expect to do any heavy work.

The router is called a Palm Edge Router for a reason. It is never meant for heavy work to begin with. It is designed specifically for edge router and trimmer, with all the unique shape and features to serve the purpose. It is not perfect, but definitely one of the best edge router options out there. On top of that, it usually comes at a budget price, especially for people already owns some Bosch 12V batteries. It's not the router's problem if you unreasonably expect it to solve all router problems. Discrediting the product because that doesn't make much sense. It's like saying Messi is not a good athlete because he is not great at basketball.

Two speeds: on and off.

I had this router. It ate a beating and melted the housing after only about 20 hours of use. Can not recommend. Used to have all Bosch tools but having too many failures lately so I am switching to Milwaukee.

in for 1. Almost bought this when it went for $99. I have a 18v Makita router that I like, but I also have a plunge base and guiderails on it, so removing that stuff for quickly taking down the edge on a piece meant that I usually just ended up sanding the piece instead of going through the hassle. Hopefully this will solve that issue, an i already like the couple other bosch 12v tools I have and how much lighter they are than 18v ones.

It COULD work for that, but the base is offset and specifically designed for edge applications, so it definitely won't be the best for that

What? Melted the housing? Whatever you did is probably way outside its intended use.

I've had this for a few years and it's great. Paid about $180 when it was first introduced but at least it came with a battery

One person mentioned the edge is offset but I don't see how that matters other than with some hinge cutting jigs that might only work with standard, round based routers. The offset nature of this 12v router might even be better for freehand door hinge routing. The offset nature means the center of balance is not over the bit so the bit can rest over the side of the piece and the router won't fall off. So, you can put that square end over the door edge and easily pull the bit into the wood without having to worry about it tipping.
