You don't need "FU money" to purchase a TotL headphone or IEM, or several of them.

It's a hobby. Like all hobbies, there are many people who spend a little or a lot of money to satisfy their desire to collect or experience their hobby in different ways. Some people spend thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands on watches, cars, cologne, purses, clothes, shoes, perfumes, knives, PC/consoles/games, etc. They don't need to be rich. They just need to budget out a portion of their income for entertainment and for their hobby. People who love music are no different.

Honestly, a good deal for anyone looking to buy a top of the line 'endgame' headphone. Most people will troll and scoff at this price, but it's a great price for audiophiles.

I own the Sennheiser HD 800S and Focal Clear MG and tested a few other "high-end" headphones and although they are objectively better in quality and sound production, I still find my Sennheiser HD 650s more enjoyable. I think that after a certain price, it really just comes down to preference and although I've been tempted to purchase these for a while and this looks like a great deal, I doubt it'll blow me away like the first time I went from generic headphones to my first open back. However, I'm sure it has some defining characteristics that differentiates itself from other headphones that justifies the price for a certain individual.

The Utopia is better than the 800S. Source: I own both.

But is the Utopia worth twice the price? Probably not.
I own both also and a Susvara, definitely price scaling is worse than the 40-series GPUs.

Each has their own special characteristics, Utopias excel at vocals. The HD800S has great wide soundstage presentation. The Susvaras are super well rounded.

From a price perspective I'd rather recommend the HD800S at its sale price of $1149. It's good enough at general content consumption at a decent price (relative). Utopia was my first summit-fi level headphones (the original design), detail retrieval is way better than the HD800S but has a super narrow soundstage. As a consequence, vocals appear much closer to you and thus highlights them better. Bass has the best punch and slam (the air that gets moved) which is not the same as sounding bass heavy, in fact the Utopias are a tad light on the bass.

Important note for anyone looking to buy these: *Headphones.com will price match these and you will pay NO TAX, $2699 flat and free overnight shipping! Just ordered a pair... That will literally save you an additional $200+ dollars right there. Not to mention extremely good customer service and support. Hope this helps others.
This…

Saving on tax is also a big deal when you also need to buy an AMP/DAC stack for your headphones.

What do people listen to on these headphones. Do you use a digital amplifier, or analog? Do people use digital recordings or just analog recordings?
Do people listen to these with a stand alone with battery powered portable audio player or do you need to be sitting down connected to the wall?
Do people use an iphone with an external headphone amplifier with a digital input?
I see it states for "home use" so these are not generally used in a recording studio.

I would love to own headphones of the "best" quality - I can't afford, but I would love to experience them to see if it was something that would be "worth the money" to me.
For general content any HD streaming service that provides lossless formats is fine like TIDAL or Qobuz, even Amazon HD Music.

The Utopias are easy to drive but all headphones benefit from a properly paired AMP and DAC. They don't refuse to work if you plug them into an iPhone or PC headphone jack directly, they just wont reach their sound potential.

Headphones volume levels is not the same as being properly driven. Even music output from my PC via optical to my stack sounds less preferable than streaming directly to the stack via network from my music server.

Have I ever plugged in the Utopias directly into an iPhone?
Yes, using that stupid dongle too.

Did they sound like crap?
No…

Could they sound better on a stack?
Yes, by a lot.

Most people who own Summit-Fi headphones will have a dedicated area for music to use such headphones. The only portable options that somewhat mirror a proper stack also require a bit of investment Chord Mojo or Hugo with Wi-Fi.

If you want to try headphones, your best bet would be Can Jam events.

You're lucky and must be in a state that they do not collect tax for. I just tried and they are adding tax for Arizona.

It's a hobby, yes. But it's a hobby with dozens of extremely good headphones for $100-400. Saying it's fine to spend thousands is encouraging people to be exploited.

We aren't talking real tangible differences between cars or even just the 'what you see is what you get' in jewelry (watches, whatever). We're talking about completely subjective sound stuff that depends entirely on your head/ear shape and your randomly generated ear organ-to-brain process that has a larger impact than the 0.001% improved sound profile or whatever shit that extra $2,000 gets you. Which might change after your brain adjusts in 2 weeks. Whatever. It's just completely insane to me.
Terrible example, go try saying every PC-Gamer hobbyist should be happy with a $250 RX 7600 and play at 1080p.

ABSOLUTE NONSENSE! I have almost $40K into my stereo system and have been with slickdeals since day one and previously with fatwallet! You think that just because someone has more money than you they don't care about saving money? BTW this is by far the cheapest price I have ever seen for these headphones!

This is producer/ audio engineer quality headphones. I'm perfectly fine thinking of Bose as top quality, no need to even open this door of audiophile level.

You clearly aren't understanding my point. Framerates and pixel density are clear obvious metrics with meaningful consequences to anyone with eyes. Sound reproduction is a solved science with a reached ceiling, past a certain point it's completely subjective and head voodoo. Different headphones have different sound profiles that people enjoy. Buy 10 $300 headphones if you're a hobbyist. Not one $3,000 headphone because it's expensive.
