And is the NVMe replaceable with something off the shelf, like a Samsung Pro?
I just bought this last week. Ram is not soldered. But if you plan to upgrade, note that max ram speed is 4800mhz since the 13700h is a rebadged alderlake cpu.
Do you have a link to where it talks about the performance of the Omen's 4080?
It appears that while, yes, it is one of the worse performing variants-- the difference isn't massive. It's still using the 175W config like the top performing models and in within respectable margin. https://laptopmedia.com/review/hp...titors/p5/

The 4800mhz ram is limiting the performance of the 4080. Sadly it can't be upgraded. The other machines used on the comparisons are packing i9 and 5600mhz ram. The difference translates in up to 15-20% improvement performance in certain games.

Do you have a source for this? Hard to believe faster ram with higher latency provides a bigger boost in performance than a GPU upgrade...

It's just a theory to be fair., but otherwise hard to explain why the Omen 4080 underperform versus the other brands for that much, with everything identical except for the CPU + ram combo.
Remember the Legion 5800H + RTX 3070 had a 10% difference in performance depending what ram memory it came packing. So I don't think its that hard for memory to be a big difference maker, specially playing at the highest resolutions.

RAM actually plays a bigger role at lower resolution frame rates where the GPU is not the bottleneck. The laptop you reference as an example was not due to the ram speeds but ram timings; that is not the case here. The reason the Omen underperforms has more to do with power limits and thermal design.

Probably thermal throttling kicks in and limits the performance
