If you want a mini pc that has decent graphics for gaming. I'd recommend the MinisForum UM773 over this nuc. I've had it for a few months now and its been great.

$359 for barebone - needs ddr5 sodimm and m.2 nvme. I purchased barebone but was able to install and activate win10 pro. Then free upgrade to win11pro. Trying to install win11 pro it wouldnt activate, had to do win10 then win11 upgrade.

The UM773 is nearly as fast as the new um790

My only hesitation on these is Intel 12th gen seems like a significant jump in performance compared to gen 9, 10, 11

This i7 benchmarks the same as a current i3 N305 for multi-threading. This cpu is a dog.

This is a good unit for things like a Plex Media server. It also has an IR port which I use with a harmony remote on my 8th Gen NUC when using it for playing music. That got dropped with the 12th gen on. It has an SD card slot that was dropped on the current NUCs. The 12th and 13th gen are much more powerful if you will have a need for it. This one will be great though for transcoding multiple H.264 or H.265 streams and general media server uses.

Great piece of equipment but just a bit too expensive for what you get at the normal prices. I would have paid $400-$500 for one of these last year but they were always around $700. Then you need the ssd, ram and OS. Compare that with plenty of laptops around $800. Now its on blowout, not surprisingly.

Same problem as Optane, killer high quality tech but more expensive than what most of the market will bear.

Actually the latest news has been that ASUS will be taking over the NUC line and continue to develop and manufature them, so they are not dead yet.

Love these little NUC's and i would rather pay a little more than to get some cheap Chinesium machine, but to each their own.

GamersNexus said the 2 Nucs they had all died for various reasons after 1 year of use. I think Steve was using one as his personal pc in his office.
