As a random example, this dock on Amazon [amazon.com] can be had for $26.99 - 30% coupon = $17.99. It's been this price with this coupon for at least 3-4 weeks, if not longer.
I've been keeping my eye out and just haven't pulled the trigger on one yet. As far as I can tell, all you'e really picking are available ports, dock design, and Steam Deck charging cable design. I haven't noticed too many comments discussing 'quality' on these. They all seem to be the same as one would probably expect.
Again, good deal...but in this case the 'pointless price' that Woot! uses is in fact a pointless price this time around, as these will never cost you $49.99 if you take 3 minutes to research.
That being said, I disagree that any of these docks pose a long term risk to the integrity of the Steam Deck. The ones I've seen all come with some sort of silicone padding at the base and on the inside of the front lip. It's not like your screen is being pushed into straight up metal.

2) I didn't say this dock, I said one of similar design. This one appears to have the same "flaw" (as I see it) BUT I have no hands on experience with this particular model so I cannot be sure. I am speaking ONLY of the JSAUX Stand which certainly does press against the screen. You could do a 'dollar bill test,' similar to checking the seal of your refrigerator to check where pressure is being applied. There will be almost no friction from the behind the Deck and the dollar bill would probably rip when trying to pull it between the screen and front lip (or the Steam Deck will move at least). This shows very very clearly that there is far more pressure being exerted against the screen being pinched by the lip as opposed to the back leaning against the dock. Frankly, there is zero reason to put pressure against the screen at all. Regardless if this will cause damage, it is a shortsighted design.

I have a third party dock exactly the same shape as this. My deck sits there 8+ hours every day while I work. My deck is perfectly fine and will obviously stay that way with continued use of the dock. The light force of gravity at this steep angle is a non-issue. By your argument, holding your deck with one hand will completely destroy it lol. Utterly ludicrous.
By the way, none of these docks actually touch the screen. FYI, the bottom-front edge of the steam deck where it meets any of these docks is just part of the case, not the screen.

Let me save you the trouble, DO NOT BUY this dock. It works fine enough as a usb hub and that's what I use it as - just for usb, ethernet, sitting on my desk.
The video output on this dock is trash. I could never get the advertised 4k60 out of it, only 4k30 and after a few minutes of using it, sound and then video will start to cut out. My suspicion is the dock overheats quite fast and then video stops working until it cools down again.
So the same basic shape, not the exact same dock? So you 'conjecture' they are all exactly the same? Sounds pretty 'unproven' and almost a 'useless' comparison.
So "I did drugs for 8 years and didn't die therefore drugs are safe for everyone no matter what they are or who made them " is the basic theory? Can you quote me saying damage was guaranteed? Or that it happens within an 8 hour time period? I am just saying it might be possible (again, sad I keep having to say this) in theory, and over time.
Simiar damage is caused all the time on cell phones from docks or cases pinching the screen. It is amazing how much damage "light forces" applied over hundred or thousands of hours can do. Typing isn't dangerous per se but can cause carpal tunnel syndrome.
Quote me saying anything remotely similar. I'll wait.....
Is your point so shaky you have to insert words into my mouth to argue with?
Mine does and hence my complaint and I even provided an Amazon link to the exact product I purchased.
What is that clear thing that is part of the LCD? Looks a lot like glass and has a touch interface. Is that part of the case as well? Just to make sure I am not confused.
"Let me clear this up so you can stop replying to everyone with useless, unproven, conjecture." I am talking about the GLASS SCREEN.
LOL....
Straw man, that didn't age well.
And where are your "sources?" Funny only works one way...
BTW, where is your quote of me? "STFU" yourself unless you can provide it.
