At first I thought maybe I should have paid more for the dock version, but honestly I can't say it would be worth another $300. I have a dog and cat and deal with a lot of pet hair, and can usually get a few clean cycles before I have to empty it, and it literally takes like 5 seconds— you just open the top, pull out the canister, and dump it into your trash bin.
Just thought I'd provide my experience for anyone debating between the standard Max versus the Max+ with the dock. I'm sure self emptying would be nice but personally I'm glad I didn't spend the extra money for it as I really think taking 5-10 seconds to empty the canister isn't much of a hassle.
