I keep hoping these will come down to a price a hobbiest like me could swing.

Guess I'll just keep waiting.

This seems about as cheap as they get, though. Thumbs up, I guess.

Yeah they aren't free, but still a good deal for a quality tool. Combine this with the 2 pack of batteries on in-store clearance to sweeten the deal further.

I recently watched a Youtube video, showing that the Ryobi angle die grinder has more power and can be found at times much cheaper than this. Just my 2 cents , I did purchase the Ryobi and very powerful and fast. (195) Best Cordless Right Angle Die Grinder, Milwaukee M12, Ryobi One + - YouTube

Although you that might be the case, when you are so heavily invested in one ecosystem (in this case Milwaukee) and you have a ton of batteries, it's hard to add another tool with different batteries and chargers.

For how much larger and heavier the 18v Ryobi one is, I should hope that it's more powerful than the little 12v Milwaukee. If max power is what you're after check out the larger M18 die grinder.

And the video with rebar cutting, that you really shouldn't be using these tools for anyways, is kind of a joke. He uses a much smaller wheel with the Ryobi that he correctly plunges into the cut, while with the M12 he angles a larger wheel in and binds it up. It was more a demonstration of poor technique in which he showed how to make the M12 fail.
