I keep seeing these on here. Does anyone know for sure how low of an outside temperature these can produce heat down to? Is it 5F or is this one of the ones that can do -15/-22F?

Unit claims 1250 sq foot capacity. Can one of these heat and cool a 1250 sq foot two bedroom apartment, in nyc northern suburbs for instance? Ty

A lot will depend on your living space's insulation R values and window/door efficiency. I live in the South and the rule of thumb is 1 ton (12,000 BTU) of heating/cooling per 500 square feet of living space, assuming decent insulation and 8' ceilings.

In my 1280 sqft home that's pretty well insulated, my 2.5 ton (30,000 BTU) central heat pump unit is happy out to about 105 degrees in summer, and down to maybe 15 in winter before I need supplemental strip heat. It's only 14 seer at ten years old but is way cheaper to run than the central air over gas furnace unit it replaced. It's more than paid for itself in that period.

In NY, I would probably lean towards one of the Mr. Cool units that heats well in some of the coldest winter temps, and even then I'd probably go with at least 24,000 BTU for 1250 sqft, and more likely 30,000 BTU for a house. It's better to be slightly oversized than to have climate control that just can't keep up with demand. In an apartment situation where you share walls, floors, and ceilings with neighbors, you'll need less than in a stand-alone house, so in some situations 18.000 BTU may be sufficient.

An AC pro from your area can shed a lot of light on sizing your AC/heat unit for optimal efficiency and performance in your climate, and that may be as easy as making a phone call to a local AC contractor. A lot of those guys enjoy sharing their knowledge and the benefit of their experience.

With some extra fans it can. Without fans it's only good for a giant living room a slightly cooling other non sun facing rooms

How do these units compare to Mr. Cool? Performance and reliability?

This at least 2x less than the 18k Mr. Cool unit.

Mr. cool as longer hoses and comes precharged. That I believe is why it costs more.

It's why I'm willing to wait for a Costco sale on a multi unit for my house, even as my window unit is dying

Good luck with that. All of my local AC guys that I called said they could not obtain r32 from any of their suppliers.
https://frosty-freezeacproducts.c...efrigerant is one of the few places that actually claim to have it in stock. Costway advised me to just add r410a if I had a need to add refrigerant, for instance if I had a longer line set than what came with the unit. To be fair r410a is 50% hfc-32. However, in order to buy r32 from frosty-freeze they say you will need to EPA certified or specify that it is for resale. I know you can take the type 1 section 608 open book test for $25 at https://ww2.epatest.com/epa-section-608/.

Thanks. I ended up buying a Blue Ridge with pre-charged everything and qualifies for 30% tax credit. Maybe I overpaid but the easy install might be worth it

Planning on doing a solar setup. I know peak is 1600w, any idea on average? My window AC peak at 1200W, but most time it is using only 300W. Ty in advance.
