That's how I've gotten yearly deals
Xfinity pricing is always based on the fact how much people can spend in their service area + how many other competitors are there. So lot of YMMV.

If you are paying for anything up to 999mbps, you should be getting that most of the time (in times of congestion, it may go down but it should be 100mbps whereas you pay for 800mbps).
If you're paying for more than 1gbps, if you don't have a +1gbps modem/router, you won't see speeds higher than 1gbps.
But if you have 800mbps and aren't getting it at the modem, contact them and see what the issue is. Could be wiring, could be provisioning, too many variables but only they can fix.
My brother tried the Dish one, couldnt get over 2 Mbps, they are a mess right now. So YMMV I would say definately try it out hard.
I have two fiber providers, cable (Spectrum) and TMO so I only pay $39.95 for fiber no caps. Competition works--so these companies coming in are great.
The average UHD stream is 15 Mbps. So 4 people stream UHD is 60 Mbps. OK say you have TEN people streaming UHD 4k that is 150 Mbps. Gaming does not use a lot of data it is latency sensitive so a 200 Mbps link has the same latency as a 400 Mbps link.
The only killer is game downloads. So do you want to wait 10 min or 20 min to download a game. I guess the few extra hundred bucks is up to you.
I run a business out of my house have crazy streaming kids and game downloads and according to my commercial router (I have 300/300) I went to the max DL average is less than 10 minutes a month.
I tell everyone w/ gig around here save the $40 and move to 300 and you wont even notice. BUT of course that is an individual decision.
UL is the killer for cable it is anemic for now, but w/ Docsis 4 they may get up to speed w/ fiber and that is great for cloud apps.
If you have tmobile home internet avaipable and performance in your area is good, go with that.

"Who even needs these speeds?"
Literally everyone who consumes media via streaming services in a multi-user household, plays video games (the average game download is around 100GB), or works from home.
"Who needs unlimited data? Data caps aren't an issue."
Think of it this way. If your state restricted how many miles you could travel on the highway every month, wouldn't you raise an eyebrow? Now couple that with the idea that you're allowed unlimited miles if and only if you drive a car they assign to you, which is largely underpowered, restricted, and they have enhanced abilities to monitor you at all times. With Xfinity, you only get unlimited data if you use their terrible, invasive hardware or pay extra (in some regions, they even force you to go to a business plan).
When you couple that with the knowledge that the only reason Xfinity is allowed to do this to begin with is because the former corrupt FCC Chairman, Ajit Pai, is a corporate lapdog who gave telecoms a bunch of overreaching power to abuse the consumer and exploit their data in ways you may not even be aware of, none of this should sit right with you.
Comcast was given a ton of money to expand broadband access and they pocketed it.
So even if you're in the small (minded) minority who think the fastest speeds possible without data caps are more than you need, that doesn't mean it applies to everyone. And it certainly isn't going to break the infrastructure like they always claim. It's just about control and profit for them.
If you have tmobile home internet avaipable and performance in your area is good, go with that.

Also, during black outs Comcast hubs may stay without electricity but the cell towers usually have backups and keep running
The 5G is definitely the future, and if AT&T joins the T-Mobile and Verizon, Comcast goes the way of the dodo.

I was paying for 1Gb and they "generously" upgraded me to 1.2Gb.
What they don't tell you is that in doing so, your modem is no longer on the "supported" list and they won't provision it correctly. My only two options were shell out another $180 for a supported modem or downgrade my speed for only $10 less a month.
When you add to that the fact that they gouge for unlimited when you use your own hardware, it's just disgusting all around.
