Usually nothing for existing customers.

Cancel your service now, sign up for this deal under a different name (someone else that lives with you)

That's how I've gotten yearly deals

On Gigabit tier $70 a month with Autopay from checking. Everytime my offer runs out, something or other works out with Xfinity. If one CS doesn't help, disconnect and call again. Doing this since 10+ years. I have Verizon available in my area as well which is tad cheaper on gigabit tier, but I keep Xfinity.

Xfinity pricing is always based on the fact how much people can spend in their service area + how many other competitors are there. So lot of YMMV.

Yes, it only means they lock you into that price for 2 years, without risk of increase. You can cancel anytime. If a better deal came along, I could switch to it I presume.

I'm an existing Xfinity Platinum customer.

Was paying $40 a month for 200mbps under a 12-month contract and 24-month promo pricing expiring in Sept.

Figured I'd use this offer and recent Frontier offers (moved into my area) as leverage and call.

Just signed up for another 12-month contract, 24-month term for $30 a month keeping the same 200mbps.

I moved to Verizon 5G and it has been solid - around 350MB/s down and 20-30 MB/s upload, no data cap for $50 monthly for non-Verizon customer. The funny thing is that the 5G modem is a small cube with an integrated WiFi router - you can take it with you if you travel and stay/work somewhere else than home. My previous Comcast was 600MB/s plan and the Verizon feels faster, especially for video streaming app response.
Also, during black outs Comcast hubs may stay without electricity but the cell towers usually have backups and keep running Smilie Smilie I will not bother with Comcast anytime soon, if ever.
The 5G is definitely the future, and if AT&T joins the T-Mobile and Verizon, Comcast goes the way of the dodo.
5G is not the future for most.

You might be getting the bandwidth, but latency is way higher than a typical wired connection.

It also suffers from issues due to inclement weather, as well as line of sight obstructions.

In order for it to be as robust as most wired networks, you'd need multiple dedicated towers for redundancy spread more closely apart. And the telecoms can't even roll out 4G fully yet, so that's not happening anytime soon.

This is why people overpay for internet.

The average UHD stream is 15 Mbps. So 4 people stream UHD is 60 Mbps. OK say you have TEN people streaming UHD 4k that is 150 Mbps. Gaming does not use a lot of data it is latency sensitive so a 200 Mbps link has the same latency as a 400 Mbps link.

The only killer is game downloads. So do you want to wait 10 min or 20 min to download a game. I guess the few extra hundred bucks is up to you.

I run a business out of my house have crazy streaming kids and game downloads and according to my commercial router (I have 300/300) I went to the max DL average is less than 10 minutes a month.

I tell everyone w/ gig around here save the $40 and move to 300 and you wont even notice. BUT of course that is an individual decision.

UL is the killer for cable it is anemic for now, but w/ Docsis 4 they may get up to speed w/ fiber and that is great for cloud apps.
Sorry, but your logic is completely backwards.

It's not that we're overpaying for internet, it's that we're being OVERCHARGED for substandard internet.

Why is it that this same plan in most of Europe would only cost around $20 and have no data caps?

Maybe you should look into who Ajit Pai is and how the government actually subsidized these telecoms to roll out competent nationwide broadband, yet all they did was pocket it.

They have done enough sneaky things where it's not even viable to have your own modem anymore.

I was paying for 1Gb and they "generously" upgraded me to 1.2Gb.

What they don't tell you is that in doing so, your modem is no longer on the "supported" list and they won't provision it correctly. My only two options were shell out another $180 for a supported modem or downgrade my speed for only $10 less a month.

When you add to that the fact that they gouge for unlimited when you use your own hardware, it's just disgusting all around.
yeah, but what's weird is when they did that to me I just ignored it and then my modem kept working and they never warned me again. very weird. Probably it just doesn't get the full speed, but still works.

What's sad is I can't get even 100mb/s despite having the 800 speed because I haven't built my new pc still and so I don't have better than a 10/100 ethernet port. lol. My new one would have a 1 and 2.5gb ones.

Basically they kept raising my speed until I was at probably 1.2 also, but then I lowered back down to 800 to save a bit. I could be getting the 1.2 and mobile for a combined $70 I think, but I figured I don't need it that fast anyway so did it 800 and mobile for $52 after all fees.

In reality, I could have lowered speed wayyyyyy down and saved more, but I figured I better get this deal while it's there and then will be getting those speeds when I build the pc.

yeah, so many times I've called in the middle of one and changed to a better price. Although, the past couple years they seem to have LESS deals, but still fairly often it pays to call.

Try it out, 100%. 15 days for free. I moved my parents from Spectrum at $90 a month to TMO home for $50 a month and it's been almost a year. Perfectly happy and they use YTTV as their main TV and no issues, stream on phones and normal computer stuff. No crazy cloud backups but even so it is much faster than Spectrum upload was 5 Mbps here it is 50-70. I speed test around 150/70 speed which is more than enough for the two of them in the house and they are really only using 1-2 streams at a time. Since its M2M you can always switch and probably get "new" customer deals. If you are expecting gig speeds, move on. You can always use them as a threat tho...

My brother tried the Dish one, couldnt get over 2 Mbps, they are a mess right now. So YMMV I would say definately try it out hard.

I have two fiber providers, cable (Spectrum) and TMO so I only pay $39.95 for fiber no caps. Competition works--so these companies coming in are great.
Thanks for the info, I didn't know dish had a service like this? Is this a service they got when they bought boost mobile?

Not gonna lie. I was always afraid that they would increase our price after seeing us do this and to know that everyone does this. I will always sign up after every 2 years now. It doesn't pay to be loyal or be a gold

No they have to roll out 5G per FCC so you can check it out.

Is there a data cap? Faster service meaning, faster you reach the data cap!

No way, that's 100% illegal. If they make you 'sign' a contract to lock you in with the stipulation the price won't change, when the price does the contract is void.

Demand the old price and reimbursement for any increased amount you've been paying while still under contract.
It has happened to me. They rate hiked my service 4 months after signing up.
I would chat with support - they would refund for 1 month overcharge,a nd then next month same thing happens.

Scumcast is one of the sleaziest companies out there, which is not surprising considering their origin.

Yes I did this 2 years ago and I am going to do it this year. I usually call and let them know that the person/me/partner who owns the account will be moving so I want to cancel the account, and pls for them to remove the modem (since I own it directly). Pick a date for them to cancel it. Sign up for a new account/new email and set the activation date for BEFORE of the cancellation of your old account so that way you will have some overlap for any issues. I tend to set the dates to a weekend period so it doesn't disrupt my work since I am remote. When the New date gets there, call again to confirm the modem has been removed and then reactivate with new account details, modem registration etc.
what happens if you don't tell them to remove the modem from the old account?

Well the old modem will be tied to the canceled account and you won't be able to activate it on the new account or any account. They have to remove the MAC address from their end.

$20 for gigabit is a steal! I actually upload a lot though and, at least at the time, cable internet had slow upload. FiOS gigabit is 940m/880m I believe. Been grandfathered for $60 for ~5y or so. It's been very reliable.
Who tf offering gigabit for $20??

Signed up as new customer under my wife's name, SSN. 200Mbps for $40 with credit card payment. This is $10 less I had paid before and before my promotional price expired. Activated my old modem via the app on new account, took a few seconds and got service. Old account got auto cancelled at the same time. No calling, no chatting. ✌️
