Is plastic the concern due to chemicals transmitted to food or landfill concerns post use?

I do wish (and you may as well?) that Costco had a two pack of the "chill" box version
I would pay this price for a few extra as I really enjoy ours. I prefer the ability to toss a cooling pack directly into the kit to help keep sandwiches at least somewhat cool from morning till lunch time. Yes, you can put an ice pack into a lunch box and then add these bentoboxes as well but that is just one more thing to remember (and probably ANY US food health organization would condemn kids' lunches if temperature tested regardless).

Stainless may offer a better transference of heat (cooling) if set next to an ice pack in a lunch box I guess. You certainly aren't microwaving stainless though (if that is ever your intended use with these types of boxes, of course).


For any concerned with this brand, I did see the following when first buying our kids a box:

We tried these but the compartments are way too small for us. Also the shell/lid thing is a little clunky since it's not just a single pivot but two pivot points.

These are amazing until about 3-4th grade when the portions are too small. But normally $25 each, so 3 for $30 would be insane. Very well made product.
