This is a great deal for my 10 year old. The watch might not be software supported much longer, but it should still work for what it is.
My kid doesn't care what it does, they just need it to be part of the cool kids.

Where is the series 8 going for $280? In any case, this includes cellular, which is normally a $100 upgrade on other Apple Watches.

Fair point about the cellular though! I didn't notice that, but IMO not wanting to pay another sub for a plan for a watch

I had the Apple Watch 6 and just switched to the SE with cellular. I got a plan with T-Mobile for $5/month. No complaints at all. Definitely worth it

I know it was earlier in the month (July). We just added one for our second child. It's a game changer being able to call/text to keep in touch while they're out with friends. And much less to worry about vs a smartphone!

Depends on the user & use case. It was a much better deal for us, getting one with for a child. They needed cellular, not the extra features/performance. Plus, we don't have to stress as much if something happens to the watch.
