For folks into LLM / AI / ML tinkering, this is far superior. Really a sweet spot with all that VRAM.

best I can find is an msi 6650xt for $235 on amazon, and that's only 8gb compared to the 3060's 12gb vram, which is proving an issue on certain recent pc ports.

there's also sites like aliexpress or stockx at a lower $210-$225 base price, but you'll really get hit with shipping/import costs, the seller on stockx charges $38 for shipping, and the reviews on the aliexpress from the yeston brand 6850xt are pretty damning. seller doesn't actually have stock of the card, and is telling buyers to manually cancel the orders.

Is it still ok to buy EVGA cards using Nvidia chips since EVGA isn't partnered with Nvidia anymore and stopped selling NVidia cards a couple years ago.

yes
EVGA is the gold standard for customer support
they said they would keep stock around for warranty issues but not likely. personally used evga for almost 20 years and 9 cards, 1 warranty claim. got the new card back in 3 weeks.

3060 is probably around GTX 1080 in performance. But 12GB of VRAM makes quite a difference when you are pushing textures in 1440p. 8GB will be just enough for most ultra texture packs for 1440p but a good number of titles will require just over 8 - like 8.7GB.

I am running into that problem with my GTX 1080, so I expect I'll be upgrading in the next cycle.

That 1080 really rocked for an incredibly long time - it's like the Sandy Bridge i5-2500K of GPUs.

I didn't see that one, lowest I saw was 225 for a refurbished ASUS but generally the 2070 super has higher performance but 4gigs less of vram.

Edited to add I didn't see you said directly from the evga site, the one I saw was on newegg.

Good price. Sweet spot for 1080p or esports gaming, midrange. It's 10-20fps over a 1080 depending on game with lower tdp and more efficient. 4060 lowered just about every spec as it's geared to games with DLSS and so if you are in the market for a budget card this price can't be beat. If you can get a 6600/6650xt for this price it's also similar but lacks DLSS etc.

Apples and oranges comparison but okay. The extra vram makes a big difference

It also says "UNOPENED RETAIL BOX" under overview. In for one, I will use it with my htpc.
