Have someone else signup (spouse, significant other) and put them as primary and yourself as secondary (domestic) and it will work. As long as the primary hasn't had a membership recently.

Are they sent by Groupon (to the purchaser's email) or by Costco (to the email using which the membership is registered)?
Asking to see if I could buy the Groupon, gift the Costco membership to someone but still keep the freebies for myself.
Shop card and coupons are sent by Costco. Note that I never had to provide Costco my email in the entire process, groupon does that automatically. 5 Minutes after purchase of the groupon, I received an email from Costco containing my membership number. I'm not sure how giftable this memberhsip is if they have your name/address/email from groupon.
