I take we are talking TCL Q8 and not Hisense U8.
Advantage of the Q7 over 5 series. Brighter (at 1000 nits, I think the 5 was 500-600 nits), which means better HDR and viewing in bright or reflective room. More dimming zones 200+, than 5 series (35+) means deeper blacks, more contrast and less blooming. Also 120 hz for smoother frames/motion, especially in sports & video games.
Advantage of the Q8, even brighter at 2000 nits, mini led and insane 2300+ local dimming zones, getting much closer to OLED (still can't beat it's black and color accuracy) but with greater brightness to handle challenging rooms.
Still waiting on the rtings.com review
And vs Hisense U8H.

This one for sure between the two. The Samsung is edge lit screen not full array.

I've heard the motion on this tv isn't the greatest. What a bummer.

The 85" Q7 is $1,599. I think the Q7 will go down in price significantly by Black Friday. It was only recently released. RTINGS is supposed to publish their first review of the Q7 this week.
When looking at Hisense and tcl price trends for 2022 year, they only went down by $50 between summer discounted price and black Friday pricing -and that year there was supposed to be a glut of inventory. I say pull the trigger if you need it now.

the biggest discounts were through Samsung epp programs since I think they had more margins to play with to get rid of inventory

think the pricing won't go down that much, but it would be better if Costco sold it for same price with added warranty and assurance. I think that with Costco variants they may use better capacitors and small chip components to make them last longer.i wish someone would verify this though

I think the U8K is better but if you are looking for an 85 inch that's not an option.
U8K is like 600 or 700 more than the Q7 at 75" I'm going with the Q7.

False rumors. Issue is you can't turn motion off with it using Dolby IQ. Not sure why anyone would use Dolby IQ but that's the big issue. Lol

Seems like miniLED is the thing to go for if you have stationary stuff on screen to avoid burn in. Would hate to spend $1500 for a 65" TV only to have burn.
What does this even mean. Are you talking an OLED at $1500?

You just turn off the motion settings and it should fix that issue. You just can't do that if you have it on Dolby IQ

Motorxoom do you have the q7? I am coming from a 2018 vizio p series 55-f1. Would this new Tcl q7 be an upgrade for everything?

Thank you for your extremely clear explanation. My apologies for not clarifying which tv. Yes, The TCL Q7 or 8? (I need to check the OP again). I will think about buying this one unless you can suggest anything "better"? I'll go up maybe $500 more. Maybe... = )
Both the Q7 and QM8 are two of the best bang for your buck TVs right now at these sale prices, only you can say if the Q8 is worth $500 more.
I tend to look at the big picture (no pun intended) on big purchases like this. I expect a TV to last for 8-10 years, so a better model would cost me roughly $50-70 more a year to enjoy.
You might also want to look at the Hisense Class U75k which has Mini LED over the Q7 for the Same $699 at Costco:
https://www.costco.com/.product.9065075.html
Can see SD debate about it here:

Anything better? Well, you could get lucky and snag a 2022 LG or Sony OLED clearance at Costco.
Some top 2022 Samsung & Sony models are also hitting clearance at other stores as the 2023s get stocked up.

LED doesn't have burn in. This isn't OLED.

Just got it yesterday. Freaking amazing for $999. Personally feel it's better than the QN90A I had.
