I take we are talking TCL Q8 and not Hisense U8.
Advantage of the Q7 over 5 series. Brighter (at 1000 nits, I think the 5 was 500-600 nits), which means better HDR and viewing in bright or reflective room. More dimming zones 200+, than 5 series (35+) means deeper blacks, more contrast and less blooming. Also 120 hz for smoother frames/motion, especially in sports & video games.
Advantage of the Q8, even brighter at 2000 nits, mini led and insane 2300+ local dimming zones, getting much closer to OLED (still can't beat it's black and color accuracy) but with greater brightness to handle challenging rooms.
Still waiting on the rtings.com review
And vs Hisense U8H.

Does smooth frames/motion mean it has that soap opera effect?

This or an old version oled like the a2 or b2. Any tips? Am leaning towards oled, will these old version oled also have burn in effect or can these be considered new enough to not have these issues?

I was looking at this and the Hisense U7. Waiting for the rtings review but the u7 is mini led and was almost the same price at Costco last week for the 75".

Also supports AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and VRR. If that hasn't already been said. Too lazy to comb through comments.

Google tv is terrible in my opinion. Roku is so much easier.

Both the Q7 and QM8 are two of the best bang for your buck TVs right now at these sale prices, only you can say if the Q8 is worth $500 more.
I tend to look at the big picture (no pun intended) on big purchases like this. I expect a TV to last for 8-10 years, so a better model would cost me roughly $50-70 more a year to enjoy.
You might also want to look at the Hisense Class U75k which has Mini LED over the Q7 for the Same $699 at Costco:
https://www.costco.com/.product.9065075.html
Can see SD debate about it here:
https://slickdeals.net/f/16821743-costco-members-65-hisense-u75k-series-4k-uhd-mini-led-uled-tv-700-more-free-shipping?page=6#comments

Anything better? Well, you could get lucky and snag a 2022 LG or Sony OLED clearance at Costco.
Some top 2022 Samsung & Sony models are also hitting clearance at other stores as the 2023s get stocked up.
OMG, thank you for your kindness helping me and expertise. I feel the same. I will keep the tv for a very long time, so I'll pluck out a bit more. = )

Roku is "more idiot proof" but Google TV lets you customize to your liking. Only bad thing about Google TV if the AD/showings for services you don't have.

Google TV is also lacking HDR/Dolby Vision for some services (Hulu, peacock off the top of my head)

The Q7 is suppose to be the replacement for last year's 6-series, with the QM8 a big step up. However, by specs, the Q7 is positioned between last year's 5-series and 6-series.... but closer to the 6-series. Main differences are: the 2022 6-series has Mini-LED Backlighting, more dimming zones than the Q7, and 1500+ nits of peak brightness, whereas the Q7 has Full Array Backlighting, up to 1000 nits of peak brightness, and an updated processor with better gaming features. Here's a helpful overview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pAgITOlGe4
Not a good deal in that case then. I got my 65 6 Series last year for 599 during BF but 699 was available many times during the year. The mini LED is head an shoulders above my other TVs including the Samsung Q7.

This is comparable to last year's 5 series (although the brightness specs shown here are likely > than what the 5 series had)

The Q8 is mini-LED backlighting, similar to last year's 6 series (actual brightness specs comparison TBD)

Does smooth frames/motion mean it has that soap opera effect?
The soap opera effect comes more from the motion smoothing processing done on the TV, though Hz can play a part.
Most live tv was 30fps (frames per second), most tv/film 24fps.
HD broadcast/streaming rate can vary from 24 to 60 fps. Motion smoothing interpolates and creates additional frames to fill in that 60hz (or 120hz). Some TVs/Brands do this better than others.
A 120hz refresh rate can help because it is a multiple of 24 as well as 30 & 60.
30 x 4 = 120
60 x 2 = 120
24 x 5 = 120
So it's motion smoothing is usually better. Or with motion smoothing turned off, it can just repeat each frame 2, 4 or 5 times.
RTINGS.com has a good article and Youtube that goes more in depth.
https://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/w...z-vs-120hz
And you can see results of their tested TVs here:
https://www.rtings.com/tv/tests/m...era-effect
While there is no breakdown of a Q7, DigitalTrends discusses the motion of the QM8 at the 11:10 mark on this Youtube review:

Rtings has released the review for Q7 with poor results. Glad that I waited to pull the trigger.
