Was the $125 for 3/8 impact wrench with 2.0 battery, charger and bag a better deal?
it was 3ah high output battery, not 2ah. and the two are NOT comparable. a 3/8" can't do what a 1/2" impact can do. especially that particular 3/8", it was a little on the weak side.
having said that, the 3/8" was an absolutely amazing deal. that 3ah battery alone is worth like $70.

Is this good for removing lug nuts? Or will M12 impact suffice?
this is way too beefy for removing lug nuts. if you're not careful you can shear the threads. i'd recommend the m12 or one of the weaker 3/8" M18 impacts from Milwaukee

I would love this but I got in on the maxtool kit deal for the m18 3/8 compact w HO battery, charger and bag...because of that, and my limited use cases, I have to pass here. If I hadn't bought that, I'd be considering but not an auto/immediate buy imho.

Depends on the vehicle- my m12 stubby impact wrench works fine for cars and suvs but if you have a huge truck you might need more.
A friend of mine used the 3/8" Stubby on busses before with a lot of success surprisingly. I have both and the weight of the beast posted can get tiring to pull out for quick things. It's made for the weathered or rusted stubborn bolts that you can put a wrench on and stand on it and the bolt not budge. If you don't need to jump on a wrench to get your bolt out, the Stubby is plenty for most things to include lug nuts.

Definitely not too beefy for lug nuts. That's what most people use this tool for

You're doing something wrong if you need this 1400 ft-lbs behemoth to remove your typical 80 ft-lbs lug nuts. Plenty of cheaper, smaller, lighter impact wrenches can get the job done.
Buy this for working on your farm equipment, semi, or bulldozer.
Edit: Or maybe if you have a vehicle that's spent several decades in the rust belt.

i have NEVER seen anyone use 1/2" impact like this for lug nuts on passenger cars. semi-trailers, yes. passenger cars, hell no! passenger car tires are tightened to around 85 foot pounds. some BMWs go to 100 ft pounds. those tiny bolts are not built to handle over 1000 ft pounds of break away force. you will f**k something up.
don't confuse this monster with a compact 1/2" like the dewalt 921. this tool puts out like 3x more power.
i wonder if HD allows these "hacks" intentionally so they can clear inventory under the "MAP".
My guess is they allow it because Milwaukee fixes the price and they can't set their own sale prices. If they weren't making a nice profit on the hacks they would have put an end to it by now.
