Slickdeals member for years, never felt strong enough to post. I bought these clubs 6 months ago. One of the best purchases I've made. These play like $1000 clubs. I trialed stealth irons on vacation and generally play with my dads clubs when Im back home. These are the best I've used personally, especially at the price point.

30+ handicapper (generally on the green in time for birdie/par putt, but then always 3 and 4 putt). Callaway Edge Driver about 280. People told me to upgrade and i could hit it easily 300. I bough the Callaway Rogue max driver. It goes the exact same distance, but the spread pattern is better.
I own these, they are great clubs for a beginner and even someone a year or two into the game if they currently have very poor hand-me-down/used clubs. Very forgiving, well made, great feel. The benefit here is you can upgrade select pieces as you improve, trading in for better clubs. Wedges would be first addition, then trade the driver. Irons would last you a long time and the putter forever as there are folks on tour that use Odyssy White Hots.

Couple of points:

1) My coach says that the graphite shafts, which are slightly more expensive, are probably a good investment if you are not athletic or aged over 40. Due to swing speed.

2) "crap deal, they were $500 before" - note that even at $550 these are exceptionally valued clubs. The putter alone is $150-175 retail. They are a Costco special release of an older club called "X2 Hot" which sold for a lot, lot more at the time. The reason they are on Slickdeals is that they go out of stock a lot and then you are SOL. The fact they are available is the deal.

3) "better to get used off eBay" - it's really hit or miss to know whether you are picking up quality clubs someone has grown out of or if you are buying crap clubs that should go in the trash. If you buy the latter you will develop frustration and bad techniques. Same if you buy 'player' or 'tour' clubs that lack the forgiveness a beginner needs. I buy used clubs and honestly I'd be hard pressed to get you something of equal quality for the same money, and that's after a lot of waiting and digging around. Newbies will have no idea what they are buying.

4) The only set that comes close to this in terms of good beginner option is the Inesis 100 half-set from Decathalon (which my wife uses). They just released a full set in Europe which I assume will be out here, but a half set is also a good way to go if you really are dipping your toe in. Look out for these used.

5) Golf is a reasonably expensive sport - bag, shoes, balls, accessories, LESSONS... and green fees can be $20-150, 50 range balls $5-15 depending on where you live and play. If $550 is spendy it might not be the sport for you.

Have fun!
Get old and see what happens.

I played football in college, used to love trying to play basketball at the gym, and would do ghost pepper eating challenges without thinking twice.

Now every night I have to make sure that I have a pillow between my legs so my back doesn't hurt, and now I have to weigh whether I want to lay on my previously broken and perpetually painful left shoulder or risk waking up coughing from acid reflux if I lay on the right side.

Driving around in a cart and hitting some balls in the water is pretty appealing "active" afternoon.

Awesome deal--I bought this set earlier this year. These won't suddenly make you good at golf, but I have definitely noticed an improvement since purchasing.

-Driver is great and easy to hit
-Putter is tour quality (not that it matters with my skill level haha)
-5h might be my favorite club. Great utility club and quite forgiving
-Irons are great quality
-Wedges aren't the best, but I replaced w/ the Kirkland Sig set last month

If you're looking to commit to playing golf 3-6 times/year and want to upgrade out of the rusted out, "woods are still made of wood" set you got from your grandpa, this is the perfect set.

I think the set you linked is the exact same set that was on sale 4 months ago. Am I missing something?

I went into my local Costco tonight for cheese and dog food... but ended up insta-buying this exact set for a pretty sweet $399.88. Upon close inspection, all but one club are still unopened in their original plastic bags with the white sealing tape on each undisturbed. Guessing someone bought it (or got it for a holiday gift), took out the driver out of its bag (but left the harder plastic wrap around the club head intact), swung it in their living room a couple times and said 'nope!'

Upon leaving, an employee walked up and told me it was an online return - it's only going to be sold online this year and it's not going to be stocked in stores (as of yet).

So what exactly did I buy here? Is this the newest iteration of this set? Looking through earlier threads on this, seems like the green set is pre 2021, the gold set (the OP deal on this thread) is from 2021 and this blue set is 2023? That sync with what you all know? Thanks in advace.

If I like them, I'll have to find something to do with my existing clubs from the 1990's (i.e. Callaway Big Bertha, Heavenwood, Ping ISI-K orange dot irons, Vokey wedges, an old Odyssey putter... but may keep the Vokeys), but happy I stumbled on this.
