Window ACs take like 10 minutes to install and are far more efficient than any single hose unit. You lose your window (unless you get one of those U shape units that Midea has) but getting the window blocked and insulated for a portable AC isn't any better. Plus usually the hose itself isn't even insulated and puts out a lot of heat, even without considering the vacuum effect they do that sucks in hot outside air to rest of house.

I put another 6" insulated hose around the manufacturers hose on my single hose portable. It made a huge difference. Its still a little warm, but not burning hot heating up the room as much. My room has angled ceilings and only skylight windows. I can't get a regular AC unit put in.
Any AC unit I've ever gotten in my house has cooled down a room by far better than any single hose portable I've gotten.

Haha. I knew the single hose haters would be out in full force. It's all true but a single hose is fine for adding to a room that just doesn't cool well from your main central air. It will cool the room quickly if sized right and the negative aspect of a single hose doesn't have a chance to really take affect much. I use a few for that purpose and zero issues and they work very well and will cool the rooms very quickly. If you're buying a single hose for your main source of cooling run away fast and buy minimum a dual hose or better yet a window mount.

Honestly I got the dual hose midea from Costco, and that thing still create a negative pressure in the room. I wouldn't recommend this at.

Just did research on AC's about a month or so ago.

We ended up buying a window unit (12kbtu for ~$280). I rent, live on the second floor and have normal windows. We're happy with our purchase as its been in the 90s this summer in NJ.

Window units are more efficient and do a better job at cooling. Best bang for your buck.

The only reason I could find to get a portable one is if your windows wont fit a regular size window unit.

Everyone has their own preferences though. Good luck all

I like portable aircondition easy setup and moving is very easy room to room.
Suggest getting 14000btu for portable aircondition works very well and a bucket for drain, so it doesn't rust inside

I have a small bedroom, I can feel HOT air rushing through the door gap, and central ac duct. I opened up the Midea, and it was VERY poorly sealed. The "intake" and "exhaust" were just one unit with some cheap foam and a large gap separating them.

Most of the windows around here open sideways instead of up and down. Sadly, That's pretty much a deal killer for any window unit.

Our HOA doesn't allow window units, so I have to use a portable AC in my office during the summer.

I recently picked up an insignia from
Best Buy, and I like it because you don't have to empty the drain.

Yep. I use it one to supplement the AC at the office and it makes a huge difference for me. I used to dread the summer because it got so hot in there.
