Thanks OP for the post, I would be curious to hear people weigh in on this as a deal. I bought this Acer Aspire 3 on prime day, that ended up having a display issue (link: https://slickdeals.net/f/16780097-prime-acer-aspire-3-a315-24p-r7vh-slim-laptop-15-6-full-hd-ips-display-amd-ryzen-3-7320u-quad-core-processor-8gb-lpddr5-128gb-nvme-ssd-wi-fi-6-windows-11-home-s-279) and I'm returning it.

This was 290 basically after tax, do you think this is worth the price difference or should I wait for something else? I'm looking for something with similar specs, just a work laptop with basic functionality and easy to carry. I have other more powerful computers for heavier tasks.

I'd say this has a much better CPU. If RAM can indeed be upgraded on this model, I would choose this over the Acer even with a 70-80 dollar after-tax difference.

Are you sure it can be upgraded? That pdf shows some sort of metal housing over where I'm guessing the RAM is. The data sheet on the product page also lists the memory as not being user accessible.

Disappointed that there are new laptops nowadays that don't support USB PD for charging:

I've helped people setup the last 3 generations of the entry level HP laptops and probably the biggest disappointment with them is the cut price wifi cards they put in these things. And often times it's some new random low end brand that has terrible driver support for the first year. IMO just replace it with an Intel ax200 or something for 10$ off eBay and it will have perfect WiFi. These always have constant WiFi connection and driver issues for the first year of owner ship. All my friends who still have this computer they finally got decent driver support 1-2 years after the fact

That's what I did for one of my laptops (an HP). Ax210 wifi 6e for like $15.

I bought a Lenovo recently that shipped with an old school barrel charger....BUT it also can be charged via the Thunderbolt 4 USB C plug. The combo make zero senses (especially from a production cost standpoint) but luckily I never have to bother with the proprietary charger.

Might be worth a little investigation if you are interested in this laptop. A quick google search shows differing opinions into whether this "14-ep0033cl" (per costco's site) can also be charged via USB C.

Not significantly better than the 12th gen. The 12th gen was a massive upgrade.

See page 37 in the pdf. It calls out replacing the memory modules.
