Is there an update to this story in May, that the problem is now fixed and that 2TB models are covered?

https://www.xda-developers.com/sa...-ssds-fix/

(edit)
They say here https://support-en.wd.com/app/firmwareupdate that

The following products have been impacted by this issue.

• SanDisk Extreme Portable 4TB (SDSSDE61-4T00)

• SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable 4TB (SDSSDE81-4T00)

• SanDisk Extreme Pro 2TB (SDSSDE81-2T00)

• SanDisk Extreme Pro 1TB (SDSSDE81-1T00)

• WD My Passport 4TB (WDBAGF0040BGY)

So it seems the model in this deal is not affected. As for me I'll wait till my Crucial 1TB is filled up before considering an upgrade.
