It may be worth noting that the next gen iPad Pros are likely coming within the next 2-3 months. Last year this model was discounted $50 very quickly after launch at Amazon. May be worth the wait.

I have a 2018 iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil gen 2 and use Procreate as my main app for drawing. I am not by any means an artist, so take that with a grain of salt.

You should be able to get by with the M1 iPad Air and the Gen 2 Apple Pencil. Unfortunately, the Gen 2 Apple Pencil is not compatible with the standard iPad models, so I would personally avoid those. None the less, it will be a lot cheaper to get the base iPad and gen 1 pencil. No clue on third party pens.

You can get a screen protector with a paper texture for a better drawing experience for ~$10 on Amazon.

MSRP from Apple is $799. Costco had it for $50 less, and this is an additional $50 off.

M2 is a bit overkill for a tablet, but I guess it future-proofs the device for a couple more years, which is useful. I got the 3rd gen 11' iPad Pro for $550 after tax during Targets last fire sale in December and love it. The M1 has never felt slow, even when using sidecar and other memory-hogging apps

Man I really love the concept of iPad but as someone grew up with regular OS I have so far failed to take advantage of its power. One advantage I can see is notes taking but I think an air would do just fine with it.

Anyone with any special usage? Someone who is into software, like to tinker with electronics and such?

My exact same iPad. Still works great. Only for media consumption and some mark up on screen shots from the MacBook via airdrop. Tried sidecar but kept getting disconnected.

I really want an ipad pro, especially the 12.9'' one, but ipados is really holding back the hardware. The hardware is great but it seems so silly to drop 700-1000+ and you're forced to use only what's on the app store.
