The first time you're in an area with no cell reception and you get notified that you're off the trail, it has paid for itself and then some. Offline maps are another fantastic feature. To me, it's all about making sure my hike is enjoyable and SAFE.

I like AllTrails a lot and even if free version is pretty capable and can be used 95% of the situations without any problems. It's one of the few apps I like and want to reward people who made it
I agree. All Trails is a highly useful app I just wish one didn't have to jump through hoops to get a fair price which is half (or less) of their retail.

I've tried some other apps and All Trails wins

The premium gives you downloads for off the grid use which I appreciate. And lifeline for on the grid use, which my family appreciates and I guess I do too because I don't have to text updates or even to say I'm my way home which makes it feel like iIm off the grid

Do they cover trails for out the country? Going on a asia trip to multiple countries soon

I used it during my India trip recently. It did find some good trails near by but the coverage wasn't too great.

My plus membership expires the end of this month and I had turned off auto-renew months ago. I don't see any place to apply this code for future membership so I sent support an email to see if they would allow me to do this (I have had luck with this in past years - them letting me do the 50% off rate - figured it was worth a try again) I will report back with results

Can it be tacked on to an existing paid subscription?

I've had All trails on and off over the years, it's nice for finding trails in a new location. And certainly nice to be able to download maps and details when going off the grid. But, I think all these third party mapping providers with annual or monthly paid subs are trying to sign up as many ppl as possible to front run IOS 17, which on IOS devices at least and WATCHES will allow the downloading of topo and trail maps to the device, and make that available on the WATCH, so that real benefit for these third parties is going to be disintermediated come September 2023.

This may be a dumb question, but how is this $18 better than Google Maps? I believe you can download offline maps there as well. What does the $18 buy you? Thanks!

I am new to AllTrails and paid it before setting up my account. Seems you have to set up your account first coz I can't get into Alltrails+ without paying again! Sent a msg that they hopefully will resolve on Monday. Anyone ran into the same?

Is this problem unique to me? I have the AllTrails+ app installed (Android), and when I needed it most, no cell signal in the Northern Cascades, it would not load up the pre-downloaded map (yes I had made sure I downloaded it). This happened on multiple occasions, multiple different hikes.

So basically it was useless when I needed it most, for map display in the wild. Each downloaded map had a little Arrow icon on it, like a navigate icon or something, but it wouldn't do anything if I clicked it, wouldn't even load the base layer map.

It seems the app checks for signal and if you don't have signal it won't load the map at all, even if downloaded? Can someone else who understands this app better explain

Not unique. Had this issue in iPhone. Switched to airplane mode (to ensure AllTrails is not searching internet) and then reloaded the app to resolve. Haven't seen an issue with this trick. Once loaded, removed the airplane mode

Wow, I didn't know that feature was coming in iOS 17. WorkOutdoors has been my go-to app for viewing gpx files on my watch.

Do you know of other (quality) places to freely download them, rather than AllTrails. I've been a pro subscriber for 3 years but would love to explore other options.

Did the same here. Emailed on Friday and awaiting a reply hopefully when the business week resumes.

Make sure the app is using a paid login.same happened to me multiple times then I realized that the account associated with the app was a free one. Log out and log in with correct(paid) account solved the issue

How does it compare to the Hiking Project app?

Fairly new to hiking ,is it really worth it for a casual to intermediate hiker ?
You probably won't benefit much from the paid version as a casual hiker but the reason I'm upgrading is to support the app. I'm also a casual hiker and the free app is fine but I want to support them.

Adding on to this, it uses high accuracy GPS mode on your phone which burns up battery. Make sure you click the end the hike in the app at the end or it will keep running in the background and drain the battery long after you've driven away from the park.
