They have started selling cheap Chinese garbage with their normal fairly reliable audio equipment. I avoid any of the newer products that I am not familiar with
I thought monoprice sold dependable, decent quality goods.. did they receive the wrong container off the boat?

Was $2.99. For you, today... Only $5. Honest Omar's.
But regarding Mono products in general, I've gotten great stuff, mostly pro audio, at very good prices. Recent additions to my studio were excellent. Got a monitor riser, smoked glass, for $12, and a mic isolation booth for $10. Quality, excellent. Cables are very good prices too. I would check the product before throwing them under the bus.
I bought this thinking I can plug this into my office work PC speakers and pair my phone for music. Music quality transmitted via this device is somewhat degraded with distortion. No option to plug this into a power source while in use making it fully rely to its tiny internal rechargeable battery which is not serviceable by the way. The only potential practical use I have for this device now is to buy a short 2.5 audio Aux to use as a Bluetooth bridge from an airline seat audio jack to my wireless earbuds.
In short, this is a novelty item that has little to no practical use - at least for me.
I need to connect my TV to a bluetooth head set. So I need a bluetooth transmitter that outputs from the 3.5mm or optical out of my TV and has a way for selecting a bluetooth headphone to connect to. When I search for Bluetooth transmitters, they all show connecting to a phone/PC where the connection is initiated from the other device(Phone/PC). That's not possible when I'm trying to connect the device to a pair of headsets.
I use this for this exact use case - it supports two headphones and has been rock solid.
