The Good Doctor is back but this is not a good laptop. Had the 2021 version and cannot believe they are still using the same chassis
They are not using the same Chasis. There may be some similarities but internally they have change a lot. Check the Notebookcheck.net reviews for this model and you will see that this is one of the best performing laptop, similar to Legion Pro 7i.

Suryasis, love you too for the laptop and phone deals you helped people on but the 2023 model on notebookcheck.net shows the exact same internal as my 2021 model. Everything is in the same place and have the same screw holes and heatsink design.

1st of all, thanks for the kind words.
Now let me clarify couple of things. HP Omen 17 has two models since last two years. The 2021 model which you are referring, is built for a Intel Core H series 45W CPU like 11800H which can boost up to 100W and a full powered RTX 3080 with 150W TDP. In 2022, HP introduced two models, one with 12th Gen Core H series CPUs like 12700H and RTX 3000 series card with full 165W power and that uses more or less the same design, both internals and externals, as your 2021 model because the overall CPU + GPU TDP was more or less same. But they have also introduced another model for the newly launched H55 series HX processors like the i7-12800HX which has more cores than normal H series and can go up to 140W alone for the CPU and full 165W RTX 3080 Ti. I think you can obviously understand, without thermal system upgrade, you cannot just put more powerful CPu on that chassis.
Now, in 2023, the same trend continues, they have two versions of Omen 17, one with standard H series Processors (i7-13700H, i9-13900H) and other for HX series Processors like i7-13700HX and i9-13900HX. If you check the notebookcheck review, you can see that in CPu only workload, they allow i9-13900HX to pull 130W alone whereas the model with normal H series can pull only around 90W.
The model you probably have is similar to the below one: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/pr...aptop.html
The main changes in the thermal design to handle the extra power for the HX series processors are a better fan with more number of blades, thicker heatpipes and I think some small changes.
Also, if you check the review, you can notice that it can handle that 24 Core i9 and RTX 4080/4090 pretty well. Yes, it is loud at full load but most other laptops too.

Do you know if this chassis will be good for having it closed and using an external monitor? There seems to be vent on the top but the fans are on the bottom.
Got this bad boi been using for bout a month with my XG43UQ 144hz 43" 4k monitor...I'm loving it. Oh and had a great experience antonline great customer service prior and post purchase. You lose the numpad , per key lit keyboard and 165hz instead of 240hz...but listen guys and gals you cant beat that price tag for an i9 4090 that's all I'm saying.

The laptop is great for sure but buying from anyone else would be safer then Antonline.
